Description This was painted around 1989, actually, sometime that January.... there was a big snow where I was living in Louisiana, which is unusual to say the least. My street was iced over and I was stuck at home for about two days.....didn't have a computer back then so guess what I did?

Its maybe not my *best* watercolor work, but people seem to remember it more than others.

The old man represents an Native American Shaman, and for some reason it felt right to put him in a traditional ghost dancer type costume.

This painting is very large, dimensions are about 30 w x 36 h.

watercolor on cold press Arches paper.

Owls are my favorite. This is wonderful. I agree with Trickster, really great use of water color!

Oh, I like this! I find shamanic practices very fascinating - and the owl is my favourite animal. so
I found that you have to make time for some things. I'm much more balanced since I decided that, rain or shine, I will draw something each week-end - even if it's just a quick sketch or some silly fanart. It's hard when there's a lot to do and, yes, you sometimes feel guilty about drawing or painting instead of doing what needs to be done, but trust me: it also needs to be done. For you.

Thank you so much! and thanks for the !

I want to paint more....I miss being able to do it. I work too much
Hopefully in the next year or so that will change, and I will be able to paint again.

Thank you for your kind words. I painted this while living in the country in North Louisiana. We had a heavy ice/snow storm that winter and I was stuck at home, so I had plenty of time to paint this....in between playing with my niece and nephew in the snow!

For some reason I totally missed this the first time I visited your gallery. It's fantastic! I didn't know you were such a talented painter! I love the theme with the Native American Shaman. And snow in La.? Very unusual indeed!

Hehehe! Thanks, dear! and Thanks for the !
Yup, Watercolors were my main media back then....before digital art( Ye Gods I am old ). Watercolors were cheaper than oils and acryilics, and I really like the spontanaity of them.
yep, snow in Louisiana! I was living just outside of Shreveport then, in a little town called Keithville. It snowed and iced over the little road my house was at the end of.....so I was stuck....for 3 days till it all melted away
We used to get it there in North LA at least once a year.....back before the climate started the global warming stuff.

Yeah, I'm always envious of those living in North Louisiana because of the greater chance of snow. It snowed twice in my lifetime down here. Once when I was around 8 and a few years ago.

I still love this. I love the owl. So glad you captured it and posted it. However I really must point out as great as this is, it really clashes with your gold lame bedspread.
