This is a project for a college class of mine. We have to choose an article and do an illustration for it. My article is about mayan gods and goddesses. So I picked my four favs and drew them as close as i could to their descriptions but still how I think they look.

Gukumatz "feathered serpent" (he is considered the equivalent of the Aztec god, Quetzalcoatl), they one day thought he would come back to Earth and destroy it.

Itzpapalotl "Obsidian Butterfly" was a fearsome skeletal warrior, she was described as having black butterfly wings, jaguar claws for hands, and eagle feet for her own, she is associated with birds too. (Later after I have drawn it I found out she was actually Aztec, whoops)

Kinich Ahau "Sun-eyed Lord" He is the Mayan sun god. He is usually depicted as a king because most kings of the mayans were assimilated to be the sun deity, he is also the highest solar deity.

Toci "Mother of the Gods" She was described as having markings on her face and an elaborate headdress, she is also associated with healing. (She might be Aztec too, wiki messed me up with which gods belonged to which civilization)
