Description I want to see how Korra looks with her hair down (and not in her iconic wolf-tail hairdo) looking a bit more feminine and wearing some Asian ceremonial robe... could be a wedding dress. Dunno. Definitely doesn't look anything like a Watertribe apparel from either poles, but I was going for some heavy Eastern Asian flare anyway.

Did you seriously white-wash Korra?

... yes, I did....

... just kidding. No, it was more of an experiment that didn't end as I wanted it to. I think you can see it for yourself. I'm okay-ish with the sketching and b/w drawing part but not so good with the coloring part. I was trying a new coloring technique for this painting, done entirely on photoshop. I was trying to go for a kind of oil-painty manga-ish look with generally subdued tones. I didn't notice how pale she looked compared to usual until all the colors were in place, and by then I wanted to see how it would turn out with Korra' skin looking like that. She definitely looks more Eastern-Asian than Inuit here.

I've had a few people telling me that it doesn't really look like Korra.

But then again, altering a character's iconic appearance is always a risk since cartoon series tend to have a fixed appearance for each charaters and don't really change them around much. Change their hair or the color of their eyes and you can say that that's a completely different characters. Not a lot of emphasis is ever given to a character's facial bone structure and such. If I challenge the Korrian now to identify her with her bone structure alone (without the crutches of her usual identifying pieces) and drawn using various styles I doubt many could point out which one is Korra.

That's why I wanted to experiment. That's the point of experiment. To see how a character would look under different viewing lens.

Okay, I was thinking for a moment that it was the other thing. Sorry about that.
