Description Whip Coral Shrimp
Dasycaris zanzibarica

A small shrimp (max. 20 mm for females) which lives on coral whips.

Location: Indonesia

Coral whips can have different kind of guest: this shrimp, a very similar crab and few small fishes (Gobies). Like many mimetic species, they are not very scared by humans (probably they think you can't see them)! The real problem is to focus while suspended in the water, maybe with some current. The average size is less than 1 cm (0'0-13/32"), so you need to go very close and try to keep focused as long as possible.

Underwater photography is not paying enough for living. But it's my main occupation to take pictures and study a little bit of marine life.
