So Kion and Rani had these two literally a year after their wedding. Their marriage had flaws from the start because they rushed into it with completely different expectations. They were married fairly young, right as they're on the verge of adulthood. Rani hadn't yet discovered she was aroace when they married, but she did care about him, confusing those feelings for love. Kion cared for her as well, though he wasn't sure he could call it 'love' yet

Their relationship was pretty good, despite the occasional clashes. However... once the girls were born, that's... when things started to decline. Kion and Rani adored them, but being rather young parents on top of ruling the Tree strained their marriage. Arguments began to happen more frequently, not helped by Kion's frustration and Rani's conflicted feelings about being a mother and their marriage.

Rani was emotionally distant from the cubs when they arrived. She adores them, but her duties as queen are more important to her. So, when the twins were newborns, Rani didn't do much other than nurse them. She started actively participating when they were about three or four years old. Meanwhile, Kion recalled how he felt as a cub, growing up with parents who struggled to strike a balance between duty and cubs. He was determined to be there for his daughters, so he gave up his royal duties to take on the role of primary parental figure.

As a result, the two had numerous disagreements, with Kion believing Rani isn't emotionally present for him or the girls, and Rani believing Kion is ignoring his responsibilities as king.
