Thanks, yeah I tried to capture all of him in one frame...

He appears strong and harsh 'in the light', where everyone can see him, but shows that he is hurt and changed 'in the shadows', where nobody can see him... and of course it's leaking out into the light a bit 'cause he can't "keep it up" so after a second take, you can notice that something isn't quite right, even in the light.

Or at least so was my thoughts whilst making the painting ^^

*try holding your hand up and cover either side of his face... makes it clearer

This is exactly what I was referring to--that strong facade he exudes to others, but the darkness, the trauma of his past (and present) that lingers in the shadows. He's both--strength and vulnerability, which is what makes the character compelling to me.

And you painted that. I'm in utter awe, especially knowing how much thought you put into capturing him this way.

(BTW, we have lots of family in Norway!)

Exactly ^^ I like putting thought into my paintings gives them a better character and makes them more interesting... otherwise they would pretty much just be faces

(^^ cool, we're olny 6-7 million people over here, so I'll say hi if I stumble upon one of them Anderson/Andersen is quite a common name though, so quite theoretically I might, maybe, possibly have seen some of them.. without ever knowing *mesmerized for a few seconds* )

^^And this is why I'm an avid follower of your work. You don't just paint portraits--you paint people, souls and all. I love it. I'm insanely jealous, but alas, my gift is in writing.

(Actually the Norske blood comes from my mother-in-law's side of the family. Her maiden name is Storstein. And my husband's older half-brother is a Jensen, but he took his wife's name when they married: Skaiaa.)
