DESCRIPTION

The M42 Perun is the standard main battle tank of the Terran Federation military in the post Third Bugs War era, introduced to fulfil the specifications for a replacement of the obsolete M28 Ariete III main battle tanks then in service. Originally, the technologically advanced M40 Susanoo was originally intended to fulfil this role, however the difficulties in its production and procurement have led to the introduction of the less sophisticated M42 Perun as a cost-effective alternative to re-equip and quickly modernize the entire Federation military after the heavy losses incurred during the Third Bug War.

Highly mobile, well-armed and heavily armoured, the tank featured high degree of modularity for its equipments to be able to adapt to the worst possible combat environments the Terran Army might come across. This makes the Perun’s capabilities rivalling its predecessors while its heavy protection allow the vehicles to have much better staying power in combat than some of the larger IFVs currently in service. Its simple, easily-maintained and standardized chassis has enabled many industrialized planets within the Federation’s sphere to be able to produce the design en-masse and even with more than enough spare vehicles for exporting to Terran friendly allies. With multiple variants and derivative vehicles currently in service, the Perun has become a symbol of the Federation newly revitalized military power and its ever-expanding influences throughout the galaxy in the 24th century AD.
