how'd you hook nikkor glass to your 5d?

how is the nikon glass compared to the equivalent canon glass? the price difference is pretty minimal comparing a canon 50mm f/1.2 vs a nikon 55mm f/1.2 from what i've seen, so does the lens warrant the extra cost of the converter?

The last I checked, the price difference between the Canon 50mm F/1.2L and the easily accessible Nikon equivalents is quite large. I don't recall the exact price I paid for the Canon 50, but it was nearly $1500, while I purchased the Nikon 55mm F/1.2 AIS for $400 in perfect condition, and the Nikon 50mm F/1.2 AIS for $600 brand new. The converter I use was $50. This may depend on the country you live in though...

That said, the Canon 50mm F/1.2L was the best performing, with the Nikon 50mm F/1.2 AIS returning similar but slightly softer results. The Canon focuses the closest, followed by the 50mm Nikon, and the 55mm F/1.2 nikkor has varying close focusing distance depending on the version you purchase (there are 6 or 7 I believe). The Nikkor 55mm F/1.2 AIS is the worst of the three, but to be honest, when I had all three I used the 55mm F/1.2 the most and found it to be perfectly useable and capable of producing more bokeh than the others. I have since sold the Nikon 50 and 55mm lenses, but I would not hesitate to buy either if I were ever so inclined again.

In other words, I would use all three interchangeably, as I didn't find the difference in image quality between them to be vastly different, thought their prices are. I settled with the Canon simply because I primarily use a Canon body and needed the extra cash.

thank you so much for this, it's put a lot of things into perspective and i've already sourced some second hand relatively fast lenses which i want to buy next month. i can't wait to play with them!

It works fine, but truth be told I would prefer to purchase the 530EX II instead.
