This piece is really striking to me because, even though it's of the movie's Fili and Kili, and was created digitally, it still somehow feels like a very old-fashioned illustration, like it could have been from a vintage Tolkien storybook.

Yep. My reaction when I first time saw them in the movie was: "NO! They do this on purpose, why god WHYYY?!?" Something like that. I`m sure I`ll cry in the third part.

It is amazing what a difference a background can make. Your image really stands out since most people omit that rather large part of the painting. I love the light play and of course, it's my two favorite dwarves.
