Description
A marine mammal from my magitech world of Borgalor; hippocamps are herbivores that form herds in the kelp forests off the eastern and southern coast of the continent of Jælondis in northern Borgalor. They communicate via fairly complex body language and various noises, including neighs, whistling and clicks, and males raise their mane-like crests or hit each others with the hooves when competing over mares. When threatened, usually by sharks or sea serpents, they either swim deep into the kelp forests or crawl on land.
Hippocamps often appear in the art and legends of goblin, human and lowland dwarven cultures found in eastern and southeastern Jælondis, and in the goblin republic of Terúk, fried hippocampus served with boiled mandrakes is considered a national dish.
