Description So I was on the way home yesterday when I noticed a rather peculiar scenery in the clouds - a massive cloud which appeared very flatly colored, almost unnatural, like a part of the clouds behind it being cut out of the picture. It was so peculiar that I spent like 10 minutes staring into it (luckily, I wasn't the one driving ) and wondering, shouldn't I take a picture? However, I didn't have my camera and I really don't like taking pictures with a phone. So I just stared, marveling at the sight, which was equally beautiful and bizarre.

Turns out, when I stare at something memorable for so long, I kinda memorize it, at least for a while. Just before I arrived home it occurred to me - I didn't take a picture, but I could still try to draw it. A little ambitious since I am not really so skilled in scenery and besides, I had no reference safe for the memory in my head, which is a little less comprehensive for me when it comes to drawing it. Still, tonight I decided, Hell why not. Sat down and drew it. Within just half an hour!!! I know right! I canna believe it myself!
Heheh, joking aside, that's one of the things that I am rather proud of about this picture - it being super fast, as I had intended it. Another is that I did it entirely on memory and still I think I managed to reproduce what I saw yesterday evening rather accurately. I mean, the shapes of the clouds are probably not entirely accurate, but the colors and the overall feeling certainly are. And that is really something I am quite proud of.

Reference: none!
Ps CS6, Wacom Intuos6.
Original size: 2400 x 1200 px.
About only 30 minutes

Enjoy!

P.S. Weather has been quite dynamic and somewhat chaotic lately. Things like rainbows during a hailstorm begin to happen. But I enjoy the magic in the skies.
P.P.S. Also, this is one of those cases that my brother and I call a broken light model / skybox, in game dev slang. Something that, if you make it in a game, the QA will report as a bug Mother Nature doesn't care about that

honestly though, I just can't get how you add those blocky textures... I've been trying for 4 hours to draw clouds like that. I know I can't get it without practice but I just don't get how that's drawn, yet everyone else does it perfectly T0T

I don't know what you really struggle with so I wouldn't know what advice to give. I just fooled around until it looked decent. Try drawing using a photo reference, it helps. And remember to vary colors both by hue and by luminosity.

Can't take all the credit for the colors, I just reproduced what I had seen a day before.

Arg this is so amazing! You did really awesome drawing this from memory... it has a very special feeling to it. And indeed, the sky ad clouds do some really strange things.. never ceases to amaze me. I really love how youve represented this moment like this... really remarkable. And the colors you use don't are subtle but very effective. Β

Β this is absolutely incredible...and the fact that you managed to nail the important parts of it when you know you're not normally good at that sort of thing, is AWSOME! specific shapes of the clouds...BAH! a minute detail, and one that can EASILY be dismissed as insignificant. this is beautiful! Yeah indeed, cloud shapes change so rapidly anyway. Thank you so much, I am very glad you like it!
