whooo critique fight *stays away*
alright, I'll put in my 2 cents [1.3 cents american].
The biggest thing that kinda irks be is how they standing in general; they're all just a little too far apart. But I think that may be more my problem and onwards..
Further onto Hermione's pose -feet. Her right foot should be that angle, but to the right. If she actually stood like that, there'd be too much pressure on her ankle and she'd be in pain right now Her skirt should be longer IMO, for the sake of the "what if" wind from nowhere XD
Ropn's eyes are spaced a little too far apart. His right eye should be just a tiny bit closer to the middle of his face... but only a little
I don't know if it's what you intended or because it's a sketch but all of their clothes seem to be a bit to scraggly and loose, sans Hermione. Their robes should be a little more fitting to them.. Well I don't know about Rons, because his are mostly hand me doewn and his old robes, so it could go either way. Again, that just could be because the picture hasn't been cleaned up yet
Emotion - Their... I don't know, happiness doesn't look real. It looks like a polite smile before a pictures taken.. They look a little sad actually Thats the emotion thats conveyed tome at least. Their smiles should be a little more distinct [larger, sharper, whatever, I'm not sure >_>] and their eyes [except Ron, he's not too bad] should be a little less angled like / \ to make their overall face look happier. [Of course the eyes aren't as angled as the slash etc, but there's nothing else on my keyboard XD].
mreow =^^= *paws at LQ* Very nice though
Thats enough rambling by me =3

HHHMMMMMMMMMM... *rubs chin thoughtfully* Those are all good points, I'm having SERIOUS trouble with male eyes. If I make the angle too sharp, like you said, they look said, but if I raise it too much, they look like girls! ARGH! *resumes squiggling male eyes in her spare time* Oh yes, and smiles can be altered... I actually forgot to change them, I did plan to have different expressions, but I put those in as sort of guidelines for mouths whilst I did something else and then completely forgot about changing them... -_-;

Well it is a sketch, so it doesn't matter ^^
Eyes can be diffcult, and I find the most important. picky picky! XD
The only way I kow of to make the eyes more masculine is simple, but it's a different style than you're picture and would clash with the idea.
Are you going to colour this one later on?

I dunno. Maybe not. I don't like it much anymore (and this was long before I asked for it to be critiqued)

Now since this is a sketch I don't know why nobody else has tried to give any sort of constructive criticism because you were obviously practising here, still I'll do my best even if nobody else will, and please don't flame me, I'm only trying to help.
I like Hermione's pose although it doesn't really suit her personality very well does it? It suits Emma's personality better, I think you should make her more Hermione. She should be neater too, she's a very tidy person, remember how there personalities are to get the picture to look like them please.
Now Ron's face looks good, but Harry's is too short, if they are the same age and gender perhaps you should try to make them less "cute" as you do the girls, especially since it's not chibi.
Your hair is really good, I like how you've made Harry's the messiest, still Hermione's should look "bigger" instead of neat, Yule Ball, Emma Watson hair It's not really Hernione without it, you know.
BTW in this piccy, Ron looks a bit like a playboy and Harry looks a bit pitiful really.
Perhaps, you should use that BakaNeko.com tutorial on boys, cause those tutorials are better for drawing adolescent boys than anything else. Still the clothes look nice, just the way you portray their personalities is a bit lacking, but just try to remember "how" they are in the books or anime or anything else to get them to be like the characters.
Because think about it, you drew Hermione looking all sexy like that. Is that "really" how you saw her in the books?

Um. Firstly, Harry is not too short. It's always established that he is short for his size and that Ron is tall. If anything, I made Ron too short. Secondly, I did make Hermione neat - the only reason she still looks kind of shabby is that I'm a very sketchy drawer. I've drawn the tie and collar different for each one. Um. I can't draw boys, so they're going to stay chibi. You can hardly make men look particularly masculine in my style, and I don't really care. And anyway, I did try to make them look different. I worked long on the eyes and face so that they were similar but the male features are more angular. Everyone else I have asked says that they can see it clearly and it looks better that way. That is the way I have always pictured Hermione's hair. I know you have a personal vendetta against her hair in the movies, but I don't think it's that bad. Even though it said 'bushy' I always pictured it sort of curly. I don't think Ron looks like a Playboy at all. And I wasn't try to draw Hermione sexy. Just because she's not standing perfectly still doesn't mean she's being sexy. I just tried to draw so she looked like she was having fun - which is how I see Hermione.
Just so you know Lee, you can't criticise someone's drawing because their interpretations of characters differ from yours. If this wasn't how I saw the characters, I would've drawn them differently. In the end, you didn't give me any help on the aspects of the drawing- like the clothing folds, poses, the hands, etc.

Um. I don't let it go to my head. In fact, as far as DeviantArt goes, I'm a small fish in the sea. I don't think it's perfect. But the thing is, none of your comments were useful. They were all character based. If you actually READ my reply, you would know that useful comments are not negative remarks about how I percieve remarks, but how to actually improve my art. You were just saying the characters aren't how you imagined them. How does that, in any way, help me draw better? You saying to make Hermione's hair less curly or make her less 'sexy' does not help me draw more masculine guys. And anyway. Get off the topic of mine being cutesty. Yours are 'cutesy' too because of the way you draw eyes and faces. I know there's stuff wrong with EVERYTHING I draw. But you never help. You are always just negative and then if I comment on it, you get angry and go on about my 'fangirls' on DeviantArt. Get over it. I get more page views than you. No one cares. Not even me.

*walks into the conversation uninvited* ¯3¯
Well, I'm all for developing new styles, and I think you should, but if your primary style is cute and the picture you're drawing is cute, why fake it? You're probably drawing for fun anyway, so just play to your strengths. If you wanna develop a meaner style, go ahead, but you may as well save it for a meaner picture. There's nothing wrong with cute. :3 If it makes you happy, go for it.
And I hope you won't start drawing Hermione with the big frizzy hair.... I mean, maybe J.K. Rowling wants her to look like Gilda Radner, but there's a reason not many people picture her that way... @_@
And other dude, please, don't critique if you can't take critiques on your critiques.... know what I mean? It was your choice and act of will to speak up, and if it isn't recieved well, then obviously your criticism failed. Either you were doing it wrong, or you were doing it at the wrong time, to the wrong person. Take that in and of itself as criticism, and accept it politely. You're even being TOLD exactly why your criticism was unhelpful... that's useful advice, remember it for next time.
Maybe I'm just a DA fangirl, but I think that when you comment on someone's work you should act as a guest in their house, and if they don't want to hear what you're saying then you should simply respect that and not say it. Some of the worst harm you can do to an artist is to make them feel disgruntled or irritated over their work, and if that's what your criticism does to them, then it's really not worth it.
......also, the bakaneko tutorials suck... *hides behind a bush*
peace and love, guys.
