First comic assignment for my Sequential Art class. The prompt was to do a 2-page B&W comic on "A Day out of our Summer," so I chose to do it about the research on Nephila Clavipes spiders in Panama.Rather shaky and with some wonky panels, as I'm just picking up traditional now after how many years of neglecting it, but here we go.

I love the simplicity of what's going on in the butterfly's mind. The sheer purity of thought.
Humans- real humans, not fictionalized ones- are complex creatures but we are cursed with way too much random noise in our heads, whether it's an annoying pop song or some silly meme or some fond memory from 10 years ago. In that context, the butterfly is the subject of admiration, and then, our sympathy.
Lovely visual execution too. The "hunger" panel is especially striking. The butterfly looks completely vulnerable with all that negative space - more so, as the panel is also dead-center on the page. It's also right then and there you can tell the comic is going to take a dark turn... :<

I'm glad that this comic, err, made you think, haha. I've always wondered and wondered what it would be like to be an animal, what they would actually in all likelihood think... it's just so fundamentally different from us, and how it is that we've come to define "living"...
