Description This is what I made Mum for Christmas. I made this big and a bit of a hasty decision to have a DIY Christmas this year. This one's not really my idea, I googled around a lot and saw a similar matchbox about owls somewhere.

There is lots of decoupage glue and antique paint, and watercolor on it, and pretty paper, and some seemingly random little drawings glued here and there. (they are all supposed to be related to mum in some way)

This is, as you well see, is made out of a matchbox, quite small, so maybe not that great of an idea to give to my shortsighted mother, after all... ^^

Here's the translation:

MUM

speech bubble: "Where are my glasses?"
1. She doesn't like grimy fingers.
2. She was born in difficult times.
(when the sovyet tanks came in to repress the revolution)
3. She speaks quite softly
4. But is very resourceful
(and I should have been more resourceful in finding a fitting image there)

And she's always there (for me)

Wow, you really like it? thank you very much, long time no see friend!
Well go ahead, if you'd like, the idea's free to take, and it really turned out to be a good one, I could swear that she almost teared up (not that that was my intention, but hey)

Aww! Such clear emotions, for such tiny portraits; that one of you two together is almost like a photo - I can almost see a speech bubble from your head saying "Ok, this is awkward, but it's for my mum after all...". There's also something about it all that makes Regina Spektor start singing in my head.

Haha, I'm glad it comes across as typical, I really tried to go for that, I only wish I could have included more, but alas, I ran out of paper. Like how she tends to love the lamest tv shows ever, or how we share this weird fascination to mushrooms only she's worse, and keeps taking very artsy photos of them
Thank you

Haha, she sounds like quite an interesting character! Weeeeell, there's always Mother's Day, right? Is there a Hungarian version of it? If not, you could send a letter home when it's Mother's Day in Britain and say something like "It's Mother's Day over here, so I thought I'd send something over there!"

Yea, I figured I never really tell her how much and etc etc anyways, and I hate that.. it's so much easier to write it down, and it feels like it's set in paper then, and it's for forever
Thank you

Wow!! This is so lovely. I like all the little related personal references. Thanks for the translation as well, it really shows how heartfelt it is. I bet she was very happy to receive it!

Thank you so much I think I find it comes more easily to express my appreciation this way
I also got her a sweater, I made a good bargain, but still, not cheap for me, and what do you think she ends up liking the best?? the one I didn't have to spend any money on. I think I can live with it though.
