Description Alright, time for an update!

Note: Changed the forced lighting on the later image; eventually I'll change the forced lighting on the first one too.

These are two screen shots from the teaser trailer for my animated short, "Perchance To Dream". Although the trailer has to be in NTSC ratio for the festival, the final animation will be in HD. These screen shots are from the first scene with Lolita (Tokitae) out in the open ocean.

The teaser for "Perchance To Dream" will be premiering at an upcoming animation festival; exciting! Although the film doesn't hit my desired deadline for completion, it is well on it's way. The animation portion will be completed by April 28th; currently 1 minute and 14 seconds has been finished. I will then take about two weeks off to visit my loved ones out of state while my buddy Mitch and his fabulas team work out the music score.

When I return from my overdue vacation, I will finish dynamics and special effects (water splashing, partical effects, a radical scene with the northern lights, etc.) and then hopefully wrap up the project mid summer.

Thanks for all the support during the making of this project, I look forward to sharing it and lending support for Tokitae's plight.

Eep, Lauren, this is really coming out beautifully! It’s been neat being able to see all the development, too, it’s going to be exciting to see the final product

As for critique, I don’t really see anything that hasn’t already been mentioned, it looks like you’ve done a really nice job on the atmosphere and characters so far :3

The 3-D Looks great. Can't wait to see the animation. Keep it up. The only thing I see wrong, over all is wonderful, but the eyes don't look right.

I did stylize the eyes to have more expression, is that what you meant? Could you be more specific; I love discovering things I can fix before the final render while there's still time to finish.

Yeah. The pupials aren't as big as real Orcas. That's the only thing.

Lady-Hawk In reply to SeleneTheWerewolf [2008-04-11 19:42:15 +0000 UTC]

True; but because orca's have no facial muscles ether it's hard to have varied expressions. So to remedy that I've taken some artistic license with the eyes to communicate more emotion. It's like how horses don't have eyebrows but Dream Works went ahead and gave Spirit a pair so he could convey what he was feeling.

Oh no, I didn't mean that I didn't appreciate the critique! I was just explaining why I did that. I'm grateful for your input.

I will admit that the border lighting was the first thing I noticed. It looks really cool from the top (maybe dull it out slightly), but you're right, I don't think it looks quite realistic to have the underbelly reflection.
I want to say that this looks freaking fantastic Lauren! I can't wait to see the finished product. Good luck with the deadline!

Hi Sam! It's been ages, how have you been?

Yeah the more I look at it the more I agree. I'm on my way back to the lab and I'll go ahead and dull the forced light ramp to mellow it out if not turn it off all together. Thanks for the critique. Thanks also for the compliments and support.

It's good to hear from you, hope all your classes are going well and your artistic talent is blooming.

It looks really good! 8D I can't wait to see it! After you're done with this one, do you think you'll start another project?

Lady-Hawk In reply to Kaira-Rivera [2008-04-10 06:47:43 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, in fact I already have a rough idea for my next piece. I won't give anything away other than it'll be in 2D animation instead of 3D.

Thanks Hell, but tell me do you think that the border lightings a bit much for being underwater? I thought might be interesting, but I've had two people point that out to me so I wonder if it's more distracting than helpful.

Also, I don't think there would be any underbelly lighting at that depth. True, they're not far from the surface, but there's no light coming from the depths.

I used a ramp node to force the lighting like that, so it's a really easy fix to dull that out so it's still defined but not sharp.
