Description EDIT 6.21: Fixed color failure, added my signature at the bottom and shrank the file. 300 MB --> 900 KB. Yes.

FINALLY I HAVE AN ID.

=

This took forever. D:< Mostly because my file is 300 MB and takes two minutes to save. So yeah. It's so big because I needed the lines to be nice and clear so I could do this fancy thing that smoothes them out. Was it worth it? I don't know.

Now... if you're confused about who those people are... they're both me :3 On the rightleft is VannLu (me IRL), but you'll be dealing with Lady Echo, on the right (how I draw this particular user name). It's a little complicated, but I think you'll be able to understand. |D

Yes I own those black socks, yes I own those black shorts, yes I own that red rain coat, although it came out funny looking. D: I also decided it was Sunday, thus the yellow and white barrettes. I color code my barrettes.

Pose is from this adorable picture I found, I don't remember what it's from, but I found it while looking for school uniform inspiration. :3

Okay, textures.

I love the one on the left. Color coded barrettes? Huh... Nope, just a coincidence.

(the Echo skirt/sleeve reference is gone...)

Yes, a coincidence. (<_____________<;; )
Actually, I forget whether it is or not. xD But you're the first person to draw that conclusion, so good for you! 8D

(I know, it's really annoying "OTL)

The first person... really? 8D I should be so proud of myself.

Sheesh, 300 MB? How many layers did you use? Whenever I finish something, I'll compress the PSD file into a ZIP or RAR file to save precious hard drive space.

Lady-Echo In reply to BLUEamnesiac [2011-01-17 02:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I have no idea, I've since lost the original PSD, But I can guess around fifty. |D
And it was more that I scanned the lineart so damned humongous, that alone was like 100 MB.
That's probably a good idea, I'm sure I'd have a bunch more space if I did that... hmm... /turns to art folder/

BLUEamnesiac In reply to Lady-Echo [2011-01-17 03:07:13 +0000 UTC]

100 MB? You must have scanned it at 500-800dpi I try to stick close to 200-300dpi because it takes us a lot less room and is easier to manage. When I get a larger monitor, I'll probably go the super hi-res route like you

Also, you'd think 160 GB would sound like a lot, but not so when you make a lot of art. It's strange how PSDs can often outweigh video files in size. When it comes to layers, I try to stick to 50 or less, because some of my software get grumpy if they go over that. This piece of junk was only about 46 layers.

Lady-Echo In reply to BLUEamnesiac [2011-01-17 03:14:38 +0000 UTC]

Yep, scanned at 600 dpi so I could so something fancy with my lines. 8D
Normal I alos do 300 dpi, but that was a special time.

Yeah... I'd like to know how much space I just saved by zipping all my old finished pieces, but I'm too much of a pansy to throw away the originals, so I just cost myself about 500 MB. "OTL
..That took more than ten layers? Why?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BLUEamnesiac In reply to Lady-Echo [2011-01-17 03:21:26 +0000 UTC]

If you got the space, the originals would be ideal, because there's always a slim chance of corruption when dealing with compression. That's why I immediately burn freshly zipped files to CD/DVD to be safe.

It took that many because it's 100% CG and not a drawing. Several little pieces make up the entire image. The reason...so I could apply fancy blending effects to keep the little pieces from looking like the flat simple shapes they are. It was a nice rendering experiment and after doing it, pretty much anything is possible

Lady-Echo In reply to BLUEamnesiac [2011-01-17 17:59:02 +0000 UTC]

I was worried about exactly that, so the originals are still with me. I wouldn't get rid of them, nooooo! D:

Oh, I guess that might boost the layer numbers... still seems like a bit much to me, but I dunno. /shrug/

Originals=Gold

Yeah, it was definitely an exercise in tedium. No reason for it really, other than to see what Photoshop is really capable of :-P

fufu, you're doubly-cute. ^___^b

(You say they're both you, right?)

Hard to say which one is better, cause while you in Lady-Echo Mode have the mondo hair, eyes and skirt, those thigh-high socks (+ uber-genkiness) in VannLu-Mode are kind of premium real-estate around these here parts. ^3$

But wait,... why in the world was this 300MB?!! @@;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-Echo In reply to C-quel [2010-07-01 18:12:22 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, thank you. (^///^) Yes they're both me... in a way.

Fff, you don't have to pick. xD
I actually own those thigh-highs (and coat, and shorts, but the socks are more important), but I don't wear them so much. It's either too hot or too cold, so I have a tiny window in spring and autumn in which I can wear such them. Not very practical.
But they're long enough for grade-A Zettai Ryouiki, so it's worth it. >D

It was so huge because my dad told me to scan it at 600 instead of 300 so my lines would be clean and sharp, and I could do a fancy smoothing thing on them. Also so I could print it big, like poster sized, but I don't know about that. ;;;
Also my Photoshoppe stuff is always huge. It's rastering, remember, not vectoring.

C-quel In reply to Lady-Echo [2010-07-03 04:02:51 +0000 UTC]

Yep, sorry,... 4 years of all-vectoring makes me a little size-oblivious.

My biggest SVG was maybe about 9MB large, and mainly because it was embedding a few high-quality PNGs. In contrast, my Mi-chan painting was a 55MB ORA file, which shocked me. I haven't drawn anything of that file size in a long while.

Speaking of which, I'll try to do a vector drawing with my tablet next. See how it handles. ^^

And Zettai Ryouiki for the LOL. ^___^v

Lady-Echo In reply to C-quel [2010-07-04 01:52:09 +0000 UTC]

Lol, it's the other way around for me. Low-sized files make me thing OMG LOW QUALITY D:<, until I realize it's actually normal sized. -v-;;;

9MB? Ffffff. I'd love to have something that small... though drawing on the computer isn't nearly as big as scanning and coloring. Don't think I'll do that again.

Good luck; I don't think tablet and vectoring really get along. P:

4:1:2.5: does not translate well into RL and almost impossible to figure out sans a ruler.
(Can I use 'sans' like that? ;;;; )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

C-quel In reply to Lady-Echo [2010-07-04 04:34:45 +0000 UTC]

Sure you can. ^___^

And I see what you mean by tablet + vectoring,... except for some tools, my old Wacom Bamboo would just get in the way when using Inkscape, hence why I became a 98% mouse user. ^^

Here's hoping things will be different now, though.

But I do admit, it's not gonna be as braind-dead simple as in MyPaint, given there's too many useful keyboard shortcuts to all fit in the key-mapped tablet buttons.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-Echo In reply to C-quel [2010-07-04 17:22:11 +0000 UTC]

THAT'S WHAT YOU THINKI see. Well I guess I was wrong. :3

Yes... the mouse seems like the best option for vectoring, since you don't need as much freedom.
Vectoring is more like sculpting or building... maybe that's why I'm not good at it. :U /always failed at sculpture/ /does not think in 3D/

You'll just have to get used to it. I have to get out of the habit of using my keyboard for all my shortcuts 'cause using the tablet buttons would be faster and easier (especially with this teeny-tiny keyboard I have now because my desktop as NO room when Oswald's here D:<), but it's going to take awhile.

(RAWR----My syntax has been on strike recently... all my sentences are either too short or too long. Apparently I need school. :U)
