Description
I am in that place,
caught between reality and the here-after.
My heart is still beating and yet
my soul feels vacant and bereft,
Stripped of emotion and a sense of being,
Lost in the shadows of what were hopes and dreams,
then placed within a nightmare and left to cry

Though these tears are wet, they resemble dust in the wind,
sent to drift aimlessly to a place where they may rest.
Peace is all we strive for and yet we achieve turmoil and loss
stradling our shoulders till the weight bears us to our knees.
To breathe seems too harsh and to give up grates us fruitless,
poisoning the little piece of sanity we may have left.

Senile laughter closets our space and paints our clouds black
in a sky filled with souls and their need to exist.
Scarecrows stuffed with straw grin mockingly as we try to see
reason in a world without explanation and the need to be who we are.
The pallor of our skin may place us within a realm of death,
yet the unforgiving need to go on leaves us exhausted,
and struggling to survive.

Taking a breath to breathe
Touching another to feel
Opening one's eyes to see
Listening to words that will bring hope
