First of all, congratulations for be accepted in the SCAD!
I think is important a good formation, but you can learn for yourself too. Which is the real advantage to have a teacher and school mates than an autodidactic teaching? Mainly the speed in which you can improve, learn your limitations and discover new horizons. You'll receive more criticism, and you'll meet new people.
Anyway, you can do that for yourself. But probably, as I said, it will take more time. (Or not, maybe your teachers sucks and you have zero motivation to learn XD)
But, and maybe this isn't works in the same way in my country that in yours, the school doesn't guarantee you for a job in this sector.

I'm full of work, I'm working on an animation project (non-remunerated project for the moment... ajs) and I'm painting to huge illustrations at the same time.
I noticed that you're writing! I read the "Tulip", is so emotive! I really liked it.
I'm writing as well, but in spanish and they are drafts (is this the correct word? like sketches, but in writing). I'm preparing a script for a comic (well,I'm preparing it for a long time!)

Yeah, I am working on going to a school called RMCAD, the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. It's significantly less expensive than SCAD, hahaha.
Anyway, wow you sound really busy! What kind of illustrations and animation are you doing? And comics too! I love comics, I am also working on one. Or two actually, hahaha. What is your comic going to be about? (And yes, draft is the right word! Most people call it the 'rough draft')
I'm happy you like my 'Tulip' story. Yesterday was a really hard day for writing but I tried to write anyway.

The other one is only for pleasure, I submitted the lineart on Tumblr some time ago! Is a huge illustration with all my characters from different stories, and I'm painting it right now. : 3
The animation is for little children, the characters are cute animals and the format are short funny stories.
I'm the artistic designer for the project... because with the writer we are alone on this. He had the idea about the project, and now we have to find an inverter.

My comic is about fantasy... and amoral things... I dunno. XD The story starts with a child that live in a psyquiatric center. I don't want to spoil (in the case you finally read it XD) because I want to submit the first pages in Autumn.
