another beautiful piece donna! i think ville would be super flattered being your top victim of choice-- i know i would.

i see that you use charcoal a lot, i was wondering what kind? like pencils? sticks? i just started using my charcoal pencils and i'm loving it! i think i might just stray away from graphite completely.

I use General's Carbon Sketch 595 soft charcoal pencils. Very easy to work with, so far as charcoal goes. I use tissues and blending wands (look like makeup applicators) to blend, and I use charcoal sticks for the big areas of black (and rub it in with my fingers to make it really dark). And thank you!

general's carbon sketch? i know i have a set of carbon pencils somewhere. i have soooo many art supplies that i buy over the years that haven't even been taken out of the package yet. blending wands? i don't think i've seen those before. tissue, as in facial tissue? i really like that charcoal is soooo dark compared to graphite, but it's super messy haha. i find it very difficult to keep my surface clean. thank you for your tips and techniques.. i really appreciate it donna.

lackasleep In reply to desdainart [2010-05-07 00:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes, tissue as in Kleenex. And yes, you have to be really careful working with charcoal. It doesn't erase easily and you have to watch where you're putting your hand when you're drawing or you can make a huge mess of your drawing. I learned that the hard way, haha.

ah, kleenex. it's so dark it's hard to erase-- although i haven't had a difficult time erasing charcoal on my watercolor paper, but on drawing paper it's a pain. as far as hands go i always have some kind of barrier between my hand and paper. i use the plastic cover of my five star notebook and i always, always have my hand and arm sitting on that as i draw-- keeping the surface of your paper clean is a must! thank you donna for your insight, i really do appreciate it.

Thank you, Rick. I did this one really fast. Well, for me, anyway. It took around six or seven hours, I think.

how was your concert?

It was great, of course, because I got to see HIM again, but honestly, it wasn't as good as the Cincinnati show to me. It was a different sort of venue and different sort of crowd. House of Blues is so...commercial...like a big rock and roll themed Cracker Barrel or something...lol....There were lots of adults with their teenage kids there...and a lot of people who didn't know anyone in the band except Ville, whom they called 'Vill'...that sort of a crowd...I really enjoyed the grittiness of Bogart's, and all the kick-ass, die-hard HIM fans at that show...it was so rock and roll...the Dallas concert seemed like rock and roll lite...if that makes any sense...hahaa...and I didn't get to get in front of Ville this time...HOB had a gimmick called Pass the Line, and if you spent $15 on food there you got to bypass the line...that irked me to no end, since I'd paid $75 dollars for that VIP pass...sigh...but anyway, I enjoyed the show a lot...Ville was in a good mood and talked a lot between songs, and he sounded fantastic.

I'm glad you had a good time, even if the others there didn't give the right vibe for a great concert. Rock and roll lite, that reminds me of a show I saw 10 years ago. A couple of friends wanted to take me to see Alan Jackson ( I still like a little country) Everyone had to sit in the seats, and we couldn't stand up. To me this wasn't a real concert. If you can't move around whats the point right. I think I will continue to watch shows at smaller venues if I can. It was kinda funny how the fans at Bogarts were ready to rumble with the security guards if we'd have been made to go to the back of the line. I did like Bogarts, I'll probably look to watching shows there (at least until I move to Houston). Did you get any photos from the Dallas show?

Hahahaha--no...that was another thing about this show...I didn't bring my camera because my friend has a great camera and she takes really great photos...and she went and left the damn thing at home! I wanted to cry, seriously! hahahaha

No standing up at a concert? That's bizarre...it's not like it's the symphony, for pete's sake!

Oh, you're moving to Houston? When will this happen?

Hi , sorry its taken so long to get back to you. I'm four classes away from my Bachelors degree, and I seriously hate my Research and Statistics class. My instructor warned the class, that it takes and excess of 20 hours a week just to maintain a decent grade in this class. UGH! That plus over 50 hours a week to and from and at work, and I think I have a minute to breathe.LOL. As a matter of fact I'm waiting on the plagiarism checker at the school site to go over my research paper, so I can post it. (that's how I have a few minutes to browse). Whew! Anyhoo, no camara, that sucks. and just cause his voice is a symphony doesn't mean I can sit still at their show hahaha!I plan to move to Houston later this year or early next year when my degree is complete. I'm going to visit there in October during my final class.( thank god I go online). Oh , and sorry that I've rambled so incessantly. I do that with a general lack of sleep. It was good to hear from you again, and I'll get back to you again as soon as I am able

I know a thing or two about lack of sleep...hence my screen name, you know...hahaha...Ugh, your workload sounds stressful. But it will all be over soon, and worth it. That statistics class sounds like a real pain in the ass--why do some professors insist on making it so hard to pass their classes? Is it a power trip, or what? I had a couple of classes like that in college. Not fun. Well, good to hear from you again, and thanks, as usual, for your very nice comments on my art. Take care, hope to talk to you again soon, and get some sleep!

Well, I gotta a little sleep( not enough though LOL). One week left of this class then hopefully things will return to normal. It would be nice to watch a movie or something for a change. As a matter a fact, I'm going to rent Alice in Wonderland and watch it come hell or high water. I love Tim Burtons movies, always have. One day off won't kill me ( I hope LOL).I do think some instructors get off on their power trip. Its like they think they are god because without their approval you won't pass the class. At least I can relax a little at the end of June when I go to my cousins wedding in VA. At last I can see the beach again. I have missed it. Although it will be strange , all us bridesmaids, spending the night before the wedding at a hotel in the place I grew up. Sooooo what have you been doing lately? Anything interesting. I'll talk to you later. see ya.
