Avalik sighed heavily. She had already been there for a while, and she feared it would be even longer before she was found. She gazed up at the sky, her brow furrowing--as it often did--and wondered how long before nightfall. Almost had a terribly keen sense of smell, how could it be taking her this long to find her? Then the distant thunder of footsteps became audible, a fast-paced canter or lope heading her way. She resisted all urges to squee with delight, her heart brimming with pride for her little Toki. Giving off any hints or clues of her whereabouts were grounds for immediate disqualification. She braced herself as Almost cantered in her direction, and held her breath when the footsteps continued on. Well, no big deal, she was hidden behind a low-grade hill. Almost was probably so excited for knowing she was close, that she decided to give up her nose and instead search the grassy tundra with her bicolored eyes. Here she comes, Avalik thought as she smiled, listening to the thundering once more, running faster now--but again they passed her. Avalik stared out at the vast expanse of wilderness ahead of her in disbelief. Almost continued to rocket full-speed back and forth, here and there, with no signs of slowing or stopping. Almost had taken it upon herself to change the task from "Search and Rescue" to "Important Running," the critical daily task of running as fast as you can for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Yes, she sighed again and leaned her cheek into her palm, it would be a while before she was found.
