Description
A futakuchi-onna is a type of Japanese yokai (demon). She is cursed with two mouths--the second residing on the back of her head and having an insatiable hunger, as well as spouting curses and whatever's on the bearer's mind.

There are a few different stories surrounding how a futakuchi-onna comes to be, the most prevalent is that it results from a step-mother starving her step-children and in revenge the mouth appears and must eat everything to make up for the lack of food she had given the step child/ren.

However, my favourite version is that it is the result of a woman who holds her tongue too long, and in a sort of internalized emotion having to burst out, the second mouth appears, speaking its mind in a manner that the woman would never think of.

(The third version has to do with a women who refuses to eat and starves herself for beauty's sake)

I really enjoy drawing this yokai...there are quite a few other versions of her in my gallery.
