Description I am so happy that Union Pacific kept these around. If not just for their own fleet of a few that still run but also for the ones they set up as static displays. his one adorns the entrance to the Downing B. Jenks Shop in North Little Rock Arkansas.

Called Centennials for the 100th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1969, these 6600 horsepower monsters were the only ones built. UP had this thing for cramming as much power under one hood as possible. It was their mantra until the seventies when they decided to start buying off the shelf.

From these locomotives came a lot of technology that we today take for granted in transportation.

Two GP40X engine blocks on one frame. What more could one ask for?
