Fairies are dark in general. They are creatures of magic. The only difference is that the seelie court (so called light fairies) usually bother to give a reason (usually fake) for hurting humans, stuff like drunk fairies being offended because a woman threw her wash water on them. That may seem reasonable if you forget that the fairies were invisible at the time. Or maybe fairies replacing children with changelings. The seelie court was like the mafia, while the unseelie court were just like thugs that do not belong to a family.
