This is an awesome portrait 😊 Love the perspective and the proportions/anatomy look perfect to me >~~< Really can tell you put a lot of care into the lighting- hits just right on many parts of the cat’s face. I can learn so many things just by looking at your artwork!!
I feel like you could smooth out the shading in the background a bit more- right now the strokes are detracting the viewer’s focus on the cat > < You can also smooth out parts of the fur as your shading seems to be on the rough side- the bit that really sticks out to me is actually the cat’s ears which look super fluffy while being realistic. You could probably make the cat’s eyes pop out a bit more by using a slightly more saturated shade of green/yellow and change the thickness/shading of the whiskers just to add that extra touch of realism. The isolation from the neck upwards also takes away from the immersion (though I understand that this is a commission) ; ;'
For real, you’ve achieved a lot and these suggestions are pretty picky xD Good work!

You think so about the background and fur? The point of the piece is to look more painterly and less photo-realistic while still keeping with the realism theme. It's a pain to achieve! I'm not sure I agree on either (and the ear is my least favorite part, actually!), but it is excellent feedback to keep in mind! I'll be doing plenty more pet portraits, so it's really great to have that sort of feedback from a fresh set of eyes!
