It's obviously not a cake, it's something called concept art, and the model isn't actually going through the lens, but is in a view or setup in which it looks that way

No, its not dumb, you're just confused xD It's real, but the lens isn't really being sliced. I assume that particular part of the lens isn't actually screwed on, but it is at an angle where it looks that way, and in reality the knife is just between the two
