One word that described your life was warm. You grew up with a loving family, had close friends, a great education, and a husband and child you came home to everyday. You lived happily, euphorically. But of course, just like anyone else, you had your own times of sadness and despair. For you, life was warm in the way on long winter's nights, when you pulled on a sweater, wrapped yourself in a blanket, sat in front of the fire, and drank a cup of cocoa. It was the type of warm that fought against the cold. It was the type of happy that got rid of the sad.
And now, as you sat on the couch next to your husband, Tobio, and snuggling with your daughter, (Daughter's Name), you looked back upon life and the time when the warmth rid the cold.
~~~
The house was frigid, the air was heavy with grief, no one dared to speak. You felt as if you were living in some bad nightmare, as if you were wandering through a labyrinth with no exits. After all that had happened, you felt as though there was no reason to keep on going. All you could do was lay down on the bed and sob, asking why you had to be one of the few people to be like this.
Tobio layed down on the bed next to you, wrapping his arms around your shaking figure, bringing your cold being closer to him. He tucked you (length), (color) locks behind your ear and put his lips close. "I'm sorry," He whispered ever so quietly before burring his face into your shoulder.
You squeezed your eyes shut and started to curl up into a ball. "I'm sorry," You cried. "I'm so sorry! I'm sorry. I'm sorry..." You raised your hands to your face, sobbing and shaking more and more.
"(Name), shhh," He cooed, pulling you closer. "It's not your fault..."
"But it is my fault!" You turned over to face him, your cheeks splotchy and eyes bloodshot. "The doctor told us! She said it didn't have anything to do with you. It's my fault I'm infertile!" You choked out, your sobs growing louder and louder.
"Sweetheart..." Tobio pulled your head into his chest, stroking your hair to calm you down. "There are other ways," He pulled away, peering down into your (color) hues with his raven black eyes. "There are adoption centers."
At these words, a spark of hope lit inside of you. Maybe it wasn't the end of the world. Maybe you could be the mother you always wanted to be. Tobio wiped your tears away as you spoke, "That's right...".
A week later you were searching the internet, getting information on ways you could adopt. You found an agency and with Tobio, applied an application to adopt. Less than a week later, a caseworker came and visited your home, checking to see if you and Tobio were ready to adopt. The two of you were given background checks, which you both passed, and were approved. You were soon after matched with a child, an infant, only a few months old, just as the two of you hoped. The moment you saw the child, you knew you were the happiest person in the universe.
The child had soft, tan skin and shining brown eyes. She had the cutest little hands that gripped onto your fingers strongly. She would laugh and smile when she looked at you and Tobio. It was during the visit with her, you knew she was the one.
"I love her," Tobio said after the visit, while the two of you were sitting on the couch drinking hot cocoa. His lips drew into a smile as he thought of the child, knowing she was perfect.
"Me too," You said as you interlaced your fingers with his and layed your head on his shoulder.
It was only seven months later, when the child was finally yours. After the judical proceeding, the one year old was placed in your care and everything felt right in the world. It took a year and a half to finally get the child you wanted, and it was so worth it.
"What do you want to name her?" You asked as you cradled the sleeping baby in your arms.
Tobio put his chin on your shoulder, wrapping his arms around your stomach. "Hmm... how about (Daughter's Name)?"
"(Daughter's name)?" You smiled, repeating the name several times in your mind. "I like it, (Daughter's Name) it is!"
~~~
And now, you sat here, on the couch, with the two people you loved most in the world. You glanced down at your daughter's sleeping form. Her mouth was slightly agape and her eyes were shut gently. You chuckled at this adorable sight, wanting to live in this moment forever.
"It's so warm," You whispered to no one in particular.
"Hmm?" Tobio hummed looking over at you.
"Ah, it's nothing," You snuggled into him more, breathing in the warmth.
