Description Okay, my tablet is out of order and I've been admiring Β’mynti 's Daily Doodles project and couldn't resist at least *trying* to do something. She suggested doing the doodles traditionally instead of digitally and, well, I unearthed my watercolours (last used in school for more than creating splats to turn into PS brushes) and realized I needed to buy strong paper and stuff before I could start ^^ yes, I'm that inept when it comes to trad art... but it was heaps (!!!) of fun and I hope to keep at it, though I doubt I'll be able to do the daily part of the daily doodles

Anyways, I present to you my first "painting" done with watercolours on aquarel paper. It was inspired by me hanging out too much at Starbucks as well as by `Duffzilla 's style with adding those splats and to top it off I added some vectors in PS, much like the stuff I've seen at =NaBHaN just that my vapour isn't nearly as neat as his... but all in all, I really like this. Much more than I thought I would actually

Oh, before I forget, if anyone knows of any watercolour tutorials I could read I'd love you for leaving a link! I think I could get to like making a mess with those

PS: I forgot how confusing categories that you know nothing about can be trying to get through the submission process

A nice part of turning to traditional mediums is not really to create a great piece of art but to discover the fun of playing with real liquids (as one of the stamps says: "half the fun is to make mess" ) I haven't used watercolours since school too (and I remember that the result was very poor, because I used them in a manner of poster paints I had got used to ) I have no experience in them too. But I like the picture, it has so much positive vibes. Looking forward to seeing more of your watercolours. Good luck on further doodling.

Nice, I can see the influences.

Watercolor is a harsh medium.

why?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cogwurx In reply to kuschelirmel [2009-02-05 19:31:28 +0000 UTC]

In my experiences, I could never control it and once you put down color you can't get rid of it if you don't like the color. The medium is very unforgiving...at least for me. My wife works in watercolors professionally and says it's a tough medium. That's why I stick with oils on the tradition side...a bit more forgiving. :-]

kuschelirmel In reply to cogwurx [2009-02-05 19:38:47 +0000 UTC]

I've been experimenting for three days now and I can totally see where you're coming from I'll keep at it for a while longer - control has never been my strong suit anyway and I love how you can get the colours to bleed into each other and to form those cool shapes... at the very least I'll be getting some textures out of this hehehe

I primarily picked them up cos apart from a few acrylics I bought some time ago, I own nothing that I could start doodling with. I've always been tempted by oils, but haven't actually bought any yet as I don't even know if that whole getting messy in the real world thing is something I could do beyond merely "messing around"... we'll see

cogwurx In reply to kuschelirmel [2009-02-05 19:42:48 +0000 UTC]

Good luck, but most importantly have fun.

Oils are fun, but they can get involving and really expensive.

It might not be truly daily, but most people are managing every day The trick is it can be 10 minutes, so there's no real restriction on how good it's good to be

Anyhow this is great. I don't know any watercolor tutorials offhand, but I can sure give advice in this area The best advice is work light to dark, and erase pencil marks in light areas before you watercolor over them or you will see the pencil

If you want to see the lines very crisp, you will have to put down the painting and let the paper dry completely before returning to it. Same goes if you are doing colors side by side that you don't want to get muddy: lay one down, then wait, then do the other side.

Anyhow that's some general tips for you to start with, but most of those ideas are for more polished work I think... for these, just have fun, the emphasis is daily practice, so you will wander onto these things

haha, I am sooo excited to have you doodlin' with us... that I am at work and typin' comments XD Ahaha, naughty me... I'll call this lunch

-raises her cup of coffee- You did a wonderful job!

And I too, when it comes to painting traditionally, am a little inept.
