While working on my site (TRYING to get an update going) I got totally bored and or frustrated with it.. and thought I'd cool off and doodle.

So I popped open openCanvas and just started doodling whatever came to mind.. Some how this is the end resolute Man I draw better when I'm bored then when I'm in the mood to draw XD

A Humpback Whale, seen from below and slightly to the side/behind, which is why some things look out of place (well how else can that effect be pulled off?). This is only the 2nd time I ever drew a Humpback Whale. And I am quite happy with it
The background was a bit tricky to do and seeing the whole look of the drawing is rather dark, I figured it's mid day or close to sunset That or it's very deep under the water.

This pic was also my first submission to the PGN User Community (a.k.a. portalgraphics.net, the main site for openCanvas and also where you can get it ) Yes I joined it
For openCanvas3 users you can download the event file for this here: www.portalgraphics.net/oc/en/p… and SEE How I drew this! XD And if not then at least go there and vote for it!!

I agree this is really excelent!!! It's so cute! I love the colours of the water's surface and this is a really unique angle to draw from and it worked really well!!! :claps: Great work!

I've looked at your gallery aswell and all of your other paintings and "doodles" are awsome too!

Heh yeah it wasn't easy to get the angle right for this. I -knew- what I wanted at the start, but making it look that way with out making it look deformed wasn't easy XD If you have openCanvan (can be downloaded from the site I game a link to) you can view the event file (also at said link) of me drawing and coloring this from start to end

Wow, I hope DA realises how close it was to missing this! ^___^ Once again, your vision of marine creatures and environments had proven flawless and inspirational, with that added touch of mystery. Your choice of perspective in this piece enhances the dramatic shadows and lighting filtering through the water; I really get the impression of size from the whale, as though I'm sitting on the ocean floor just looking up at it as it swims overhead. The different shades of blue are also very nice, how I love that colour! It's also interesting how the whale could either be interpreted to be swimming or flying, as that background could be read as dark water or cloudy night sky. It adds to the magic though, and kudos on creating a double meaning! Excellent work Kuri, and it's wonderful having you back and uploading too!

Mwaha Nope If you got OC3 then view the event file, you can watch from start to end how I did this! (OC3 is also VERY worth the dl.. it's just as good as photoshop and such a small file size!)

Oh, wow... this is absolutely fabulous. It must have been very difficult to get the right effect. I can tell you put a lot of effort into this. And yeah - it seems things always turn out better when a person -isn't- in the 'mood' to draw.

Heh it only took me 3 hours to do the whole thing on the comp.. Just go to [link] and see it Or better yet download openCanvas 3 Plus (it's a small program) and watch how I drew this step by step!
