Description Hello, everyone ;u;

Thank you so much for all the b-day wishes and for everyone who participated in my last adoptable raffle!

I just wanted to post a commission I've been working on for the last few weeks when I was trying to fight anemia before I go back to my current commissions and attempt to finish them before the 31st. I'll also try to finish CG samples for my art raffle later this week, as there will be more art prizes
I need to reply to r3nisa 's and Michelle's messages, too I'm so sorry for being such an introverted scatterbrain that takes forever to type something

I had a lot of fun with this commission because of the creative freedom I was given. Being able to design oriental costumes is kind of a dream of mine (this is why I keep drawing Meiwu Xing adopts )
Laura linked me my own adoptables for the costume ideas and color palette, so design-wise, it was pretty fun to do. The more difficult portions were capturing her family's likeness and having a presentable composition. And while I did really like the background I created on the left, as well as the 1st version of the commission, I'm glad that I was able to learn a little more about capturing likeness with my own stylization with the 2nd draft. It took me quite a while to ink and CG everything but I'm glad that I conjured up enough strength and had enough drive to finish it properly for Laura.

And this is rather personal but I wanted to strive harder on this commission so that I could improve by even a tiny bit to fix older ones. That came from my own sense of inadequacy, because last year and this year, I felt looked down upon. At the first Artist Alley I sold in, many people did not want to share with me beforehand, and when I was able to buy a table, they suddenly flocked to my dA. And, I admit, although I had bad sales that year, one artist selling adjacent to me did not have to rub it in my face while chatting with one of the bouncers near the con. I understand that she was young, but it was still rather hurtful. If not for my extremely considerate and encouraging table partner, Min, I would have given up trying to sell anywhere afterwards.

This year, I was determined to draw a bit more, because online, I did get discouraged by some people who were arrogant towards me but loved basking in the limelight otherwise and often made me feel like I was worthless as a person and an artist. It's surprising what a simple phrase would trigger if you're an overly-sensitive person. And so, I unwatched those people and tried drawing more often after my last finals. At the local con, even though I was a bit nervous sitting there when my friend LaBFind and his sister taytaykudo had to go home, I was very grateful that I was able to sell a lot more than I expected and were given nice comments, because there comes a time when you do get some self-confidence and are just joyous at the mere fact that yes, people do like what you create. Even if it's less than a dozen people, or just one person, there's someone out there encouraging you and supporting your work.

And, this part really touched me right here, but one of the Campus Gamer club members at my uni actually bought one of my Zelda prints at the local con. I have gone to each public event outside of the "Extra Life" charity events they have held for the last 3 years because I'm not a hard-core gamer and can't play anything for more than 3 hours Q^Q, and they have always done such selfless things. So selfless, that the club actually rented out a booth at the local con to sign up people for the gaming charity event taking place in October. I really wanted to do something to help out Campus Gamers after AX.

This leads me to AX, where, despite a whole bunch of horrible things happening (health-wise...and not getting prints shipped on time despite paying extra for rush delivery), it was rather fun. Being able to meet Haley, Jude, Ren, Mango, Tan-chan, Resa, and Rins helped me cherish enough happy memories to last years. I can't wait to meet everyone again next year (I'm actually saving the con details for a journal entry that I'm still writing )

But the point is, despite me being discouraged by a multitude of things, I do want to improve in order to help out people and causes I really care for. I know that I'm not super-influential or popular, but I don't want that to discourage me from striving harder for art, especially when my art professors, more than any family members ever have, also encouraged me.

---

To everyone who has ever been discouraged by anyone else in any form, please know that you're not alone--these people can hurt you once or a few times, but you're the one who endures, and you're the one who can improve. Never let the negative feelings linger long, because you do have the ability to better yourself.

Thank you to anyone who had enough patience to read this until the very end!

You are an amazing and talented artist, sweetie, and don't let anyone tell you different. There will always be hurtful people out there but they know nothing of your talent, and beauty as a person.

May you receive more blessings as the days continue.

XD Thanks for your concern, but it's fine ;u;

I actually got 3-4 hours of sleep after posting this and I've been waking up much earlier than normal the past 2 days in a row ;u; It's how my circadian cycle fixes itself after a while ^^

Hope that you and your little sis have been well

*A* I wish them luck in school and hope that your own preparation is going well--it feels like summer break wasn't long enough TT^TT

Oh, and I just saw your newest work! I love hand-drawn animation and think that you did a great job! Did you use cell paper...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LaBFind In reply to kura-ou [2014-09-01 03:03:23 +0000 UTC]

En ordre: thank you, I will will send them your regards

secondly.... I used...eh, um printing paper/art paper, and then scanned it, and then used paint, GIMP, and God in all to make those animations. Again, thanks for the compliment, and now that I'm curious, do you produce animations every once in a while?

kura-ou In reply to LaBFind [2014-09-10 21:32:30 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome ^^

ah, I see--traditional animation is always so nice to observe~

and you're welcome

I used to produce some really basic, stiff ones XD

My RL friend and animation classmate is far more experienced with it than I am :3 If you're interested, I would also like to recommend Professor Sugarmann's Intro to Digital Art or his animation course.... He teaches photography and New Media Studies, too All of the art proffy's are actually quite talented, open-minded and very encouraging ^^

Sugarmann is super chill, and a great advisor. Actually everyone in the art department is awesome. Wonderful wonderful people. I just wish they had an actual animation program going

kura-ou In reply to RedRodent [2014-09-14 03:27:23 +0000 UTC]

IKR~ I agree with you on both counts ^^

They don't...? I thought Prof. Sugarmann designed the layout of the new art building for that purpose...? ;A;

(Ah, I almost forgot--I hope that you're doing well! We haven't seen in each other since animation class, but Caroline is also friends with you and she talks about how you two joke around XD)

Which reminds me, I still need reply to her email...my school email is plagued with spam orzlll

I'll try to try to enroll next time.

YESSS, please do~ I think Professor Sugarmann teaches it 2x a year now?

...there's also a new art building...I'm so excited for it, but I'm too old to be wandering on campus, period XD;;;

😆 dude(ette), I'd be walkin' around my old high school if it weren't so full of lost souls. Go explore, you have a right to as a student, but most of all, as a human being! The right of curiosity belongs to no one man - go explore, I know I did, and I was greatly rewarded. God has given me this specifically for you: "have the willing confidence to do what I have given you the will and heart to perform."
