Description

Author's warning: this lore is NOT copy pasted but REWRITTEN and drastically improved. Enjoy your read<3

Back at it with another redesign that took longer than I anticipated, but I'm happy to give you the first finalized REredesign for Ben 10: New Dawn (that's my AU series's name). A drastic change indeed, but I just had to do my boi justice.

Of course, I'm talking about Ben's Rapax Volann transformation: Ripjaws

As per usual I'll be splitting this in 2 main sections: BIOLOGY and DESIGN ITSELF (cuz society's gonna have to stay secret due to spoilers)

1st of: their BIOLOGY:

These aquatic fish like humanoid speciesΒ  live deep underwater in the darkest depths of their home planet Piscciss. Their overall appearance resembles that of many Earth's fish species (but mostly sharks), with long and strong tails, many fins and strong, yet lengthy body, PERFECT for swimming. I'm fact, they are amazing at it, reaching up to 60km/h (or 38miles/h). With a powerful physique and long very agile bodies, they form an excellent predator of their homeworld, but it wasn't always like this...

Long ago, Volann wasn't just a part of a bigger ful name of a species, but rather a name for one species alone. Volanns were the most wide spread species on Pisciss, but due to (yet to be revealed in the actual upcoming series) catastrophic event, 30% of Volann population was forced to live in deep underwater caves and hunt in the darkest depths of the ocean. So just within decades, they evolved into the intelligent predators we know them as today while the previously existing Volanns just added Silurus to their name. Thus, the 2 species of Volanns came to be: Silurus Volann (coming in a near future) and Rapax Volann (which we're exploring today).

But the increased strength and size aren't the only thing giving this alien the honor of being so called "wolves of Pisciss". That is because the greatest gift that nature blessed them with are their jaws:

The Rapaxian jaws have the most deadliest and most destructive bites in the whole Milkyway Galaxy, capable to not only bite fast, but basically bite through every known material there is (except for really rare minerals such as Taydenite for example). With sharp nearly indestructible teeth and a bite force of 7000 ppi, in a bite that happens in less then a second do to some extremely strong cheek muscles. And if you think that's all that mouth can do, get a load of this:

The skulls of Rapax Volanns are made of 3 main parts: the skull, upper and lower jaw. The upper jaw has larger teeth for stronger bites and to rip through that flesh while the lower jaw has small and narrow spear like teeth that function as a locking mechanism so that their prey does not escape.

The reason for that is their main method of hunting called " the light before death". Most of the time they hunt less intelligent species from their home planet that either live or wander their way into the depths. Although they are great at launching themselves after the prey and hunting it until it's theirs, this hunting method is a lot more scarier and much more practical for these great hunters. They'd essentially float very still in the pitch black depths of Pisciss while lowering their blood temperature to almost 0Β°C to mimic the environment's temperature. Then all they have to do is open their mouths and the nature takes over. Durring their evolution, Rapax Volann's spit began glowing underwater, and along side the little bioluminescent buble at the end of their tongues (angler), they make a perfect bait. The bioluminescence in their throats make a hypnotizing tunel, to which the prey's attracted with a bright little angler tongue that's mimicking movements of a worm. Once the prey's close, it's already too late.

Even if the prey tries to swim away seconds before death, the Rapax Volann would unhinge their jaws and slingshot them almost 1.3 meters forward from where they used to be at. Along with highly stretching skin from the chest upwards, it is a scary sight to see. But not as scary as seeing the prey's silhouette being swallowed and ripped appart through the stomach of Rapax Volan due to their bioluminescence glowing through from under the skin.

Like their biological cousins, they too have legs but not the way you'd think. During their evolution, the nature realised that the use for legs is far lesser then it used to be, but yet still needed. So the original muscles were used to make a much bigger and stronger tail while bones of legs shrunk and hid inside the tail itself. Nowadays Rapax Volanns basically have a hidden pocket down their tails that store a fleshy, slimy legs that can still be used by modern Rapaxians.

Volanns breathe through their gills that are located on their necks and shoulders but they also still possess (tho smaller) lungs that make them able to stay on surface too.

Overall they are one of the 2 most feared species (and the number 1 most feared intelligent species) and some of the best predators on their planet with a pretty versatile and powerful abilities, but they've still got 2 major setbacks that keep them from not being too OP: 1st being their constant need of water, since Earth's atmosphere is quite different from Piscciss's, so the air Volanns breath doesn't contain enough water molecules for them to breathe normally, so they constantly need a refreshment every 7-20 minutes (depending on the overall temperature of the atmosphere too)

And the 2nd being their light sensitivity. Rapax Volanns usually lurk in the deep dark depths of Piscciss's oceans, where the only light source there is are some under water volcanos and plant life that glows in the dark. And despite them naturally glowing on the insides, most of the light underwater (if any) is either blue, green or purple. So throughout the evolution they developed detecting these soft darker color and not adapting to other stronger, brighter lights. So a basic sunny sky on earth can really be troublesome for them, since the light is so strong to them that they get blinded or disoriented by just looking at it. Also the heat does not help, but no worrries, Ben will practice till perfect.

And now lastly, the DESIGN ITSELF:

As per usual, I really tried to make it believable. But the thing driving me to make was to follow my ORIGINAL vision I had before making that original design simply because I was afraid of fandom's reaction.

The jaws were something I truly wanted to explore, so I based them after those of goblin sharks (my fave sharksπŸ₯°), snapping turtles and crocodilians to rly upgrade the original. Also I wanted to lean MORE into the idea of them being hunters so leaning into that shark esthetic was no question. Another thing I wanted to change was the organic loincloth tail I did for him just cuz both myself and other folks didn't like it as much, so I made it full on alien shark tail instead. And to make it even creepier than he is, I hid his legs INSIDE the tail and made them gross and with no actual skin protecting them to rly go for that sea monster esthetic. Also the angler just didn't fit on either the new head OR the lore I had planned, so it became a tongue instead.

So yeah it was rly fun designing this one, plz lemme know what are ur thoughts about it. Either way, feel free to stick around for more future updates about this series and as always, keep on rockin! πŸ’«βœŒ
