indeed, JKR truly liked the scene, and she said she felt it quite strongly, "the ghost of what could have been" when they wrote them, alone, together in the tent.

I don't technically really agree with what you said in your summary. She never openly said that, and in a lot of ways, the canonical pairings are quite flawless the way they are.
I don't wish for a moment that it had been originally different, but the creativity it arouses in fans is quite entertaining.

Not going to start a shipping war, but I am going to educate you on source criticism because of that you claim J.K to saying things she hasn't.
J.K said that she made the "Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment." rather than "reasons of credibility." But she remains that they should be together as she states "Oh, maybe she and Ron will be alright with a bit of counseling, you know. They’ll probably be fine. He needs to work on his self-esteem issues and she needs to work on being a little less critical."
Add to that the whole Harry/Hermione part was just from Hermione's point of view. Harry would "in some ways" be a better fit than Ron. Not in all ways, or in most ways. Only is "some ways" But from Harry's view, it has always been Ginny and that has never changed. Which J.K clarifies three days later when she gave a new interview where she said that Harry did love Ginny.
To sum it up. In Hermiones view, there are some ways in which Harry would have been better. But most still belongs to Ron.
In Harry's view, Ginny has always been the girl he wants and loves.
So for no reason other than you should not claim J.K to say things she hasn't, I made this reply. And please don't believe everything that is being said on the internet. When you want to claim that some one have said something, do use their actual interview as the source. Not what random people on the internet claim that others have said.

I'm a bit daunted by your comment, and I'll tell you why.
I'm new to the glorious and epic Harry Potter fandom, and I cannot
even claim to actually be properly a part of it, only enjoying the movies
thoroughly and hearing friends discuss their delights of the books
in detail. I say this because I am a bit overwhelmed by the passion
of your comment, and I should probably be more careful about what
I post from now on. I'm going to rephrase my words in my artist's comments.
But to defend myself, I was paraphrasing, and I SAID that I was paraphrasing.
My source was close to exactly what you said.

I was simply extremely annoyed prior to your picture of how media all over the internet where changing and abusing J.Ks words after what they wanted it and later spread it. It's not your fault that there are idiots spreading that bull$hit around, I just wanted to jump in and stop this from being yet another place that where spreading it.
Which is why I was talking about source criticism.

Please understand that I'm not trying to offend you or make you angry, but I believe your intention to "educate" is misguided. Your profile says that you dislike non-canon pairings and dislike the people who support them as well. You have the right to feel that way if you wish to. However, taking it into your own hands to "educate" someone who never asked, nor has any desire, to be told about "source criticism" or about what's right or wrong to like and support seems highly unnecessary. To do something like that in a site like deviantart seems slightly in bad taste. Kumu made this as a Valentine's Day present for her friend, and she's sharing it with all of us in good faith. I've followed her for a long time, and this is the first time I see someone write anything like this on any of her pieces. So please, as a form of respect to the artist, even if you're "extremely annoyed" about how media travels over the internet and really hate Harry/Hermione, don't let out your frustrations where there's truly no need for them and where only comments about the piece of work are relevant. Thanks!
By the way, Kumu, the drawing is beautiful, and it would still be like that even if they weren't Harry and Hermione. Incredible job!

Heh, I had forgotten my old profile. So no offense taken as that is several years old and was written when I was still rather young.
And as said previously, it was never about the picture or to start a shipping war.
It was about a now edited text, where it actually before stood an incorrect and false quote/statement from J.K.
