Description Jax, of *starglo21's gallery, in full dragon form, rendered in Micron pens. I will color this once I find a suitable sky-picture to mooch the background from. *sneaks to *xelf's pre-storm pics*

As the last one was too fuzzy to really see much, I used my scanner to get as much as I could, and this is the result. I'm doing a detail shot of the head next; any other zoom-ins you guys want, let me know.

Thanks. It took about 6 hours to do all the scalework. I did it one section at a time, pencil followed with pen, so I wouldn't get the pencil guidelines mixed up.

*laughs* Unfortunately, no. He doesn't like being touched, and if you rubbed his scales the wrong way, they would cut your hand to bits. Like petting a shark backward, only much much worse. >..<

Thanks ^..^ I was afraid some of the detail would get lost in the coloring process, so I went ahead and posted the B&W pics just in case.

no reason it should-just stick to transparent media(watercolor and the like)

Unfortunately... I suck at watercolors. 'With paints in general, in fact. I can do graphite, colored pencil, and I'm starting to get good with pens; the rest.... ugh. >..<

it all takes practice...and you can use them together...if i'm going to color an ink piece here's what i do:1-3 VERY thin washes of w/c in similar tone/chroma(so as not to disrupt the line work...you don't even have to be particularly good at it, it's only tinting)then doing the actual shading/modeling with verythins(or derwents, whatever)...if the ink lines get too badly covered i go over 'em again when everything else is done...you can do that with microns, even if the color pencil layer is kinda waxy.

Hmmm.... how do you do a wash? I've heard of watercolor washes before, but nobody ever explained what they are really or how they're done.

soft absorbant brush(usually a round), LOTS of water...very little pigment.just gently spread the tinted liquid across the surface you wish to cover.if it isn't strong/colored/bright enough, you ca always do it over when it's dry. just no scrubbing motion at this stage, because of the high liquid content it might ruin the surface.
i suggest practicing on a scrap before jumping onto that beautiful line drawing.

*nods* Okay... I may try some of that.... And I'll definitely learn on scraps first, especially because I did the lineart on smooth Bristol board that doesn't take kindly to watercolors (or mistakes therewith).

I need to find a suitable background photo to reference.... I'm not too creative when it comes to sky backgrounds, and I want to make real-looking clouds.... but yes, I will end up coloring it. ^..^
