With out belief some people don't have anything to give the guide lines.
My belief is in facts and very thick papers about those facts.

But for some people the bible give comfort and a light in thiere life way not let them have that?

Yes extremist christians are just extremist and yes they are tunnelvision on everything that thiere church say is against thiere belief see it has sects with in a religion.

Bible in it self with hold alot of historic facts even some that been provend by athiest. Not all the stuff in the bible is true and many christian now that.

Saying religion is stupid is not very smart since it's only proof that you are very ill informed of what, for example, chistianity really is. Sure there are extremists but there're also very clever christians who've really thought it through and answerd most of the questions that seem to hook all the idiots to bash down on christanity. And to say that "The bible is just a book, a fiction" is even more proof that you haven't thought it through. It's not a book someONE wrote. It's more of a history book many people wrote, atleast the essential part with Jesus. My point is, stop "opinion bashing" if you don't even have anything to ground it on, buddy. ^.^

You're right. I do not know you're ill informed but I have the feeling you are and have always been so sure on you're opinion so you've only seen it from one side and never really given it a chance. If you'd read some books explaning what christianity really is, or atleast what some people belives it is, you would not be so sure. Then you'd probably be open to the idea of God. Why I think you are ill informed is because you're only argument seems to be something like "bible = any other fairy tale". Maybe I'm wrong but I find it hard to respect someone who so clearly don't respect religion (and through that disrespecting more than 1/2 of the population). That does not mean you have to be religious though. And please, do share your "well grounded" opinions if you're so sure you're right.

I'm not interested in taking a side in this and I understand this conversation took place some time ago, but i couldn't help but reply to a thing you said. You said you find it hard to respect someone who doesn't respect religeon, therefore disrespecting more than 1/2 of people. But then that means that you disrespect almost 1/2 people as well, no? Besides, religeous people = religeon? just because One doesn't respect religeon doesn't mean he immidiately doesn't respect the person. It depends on the person and how she/he acts as well. but then again maybe you see it this way, more power to ya.

well actually i used to go to Sunday school and have to do the whole prayer before food shit at school. untill i realized there was an other option! Also i have read books about religion. And i understand what Christianity is. i had to do RE all through high school, and i am not open to the idea of god, the more i read about it, and the more i hear, the more ridiculous it all sounds. And as you put i am someone "who so clearly don't respect religion" i think half the population are stupid. but i don't do anything about it, obviously. That would be like having a go at someone for being naive. They are as dead set on their ideas as i am on mine. but maybe if they read a few books about Christianity and found out how unbelievably contradictory it is, and also how the bible seems to have been written by a bunch of stoners. They could also try learning a bit about science, and fact. Asshole xxx

I can agree with you to some degree, religion is often incredibly contradictory if you read it word by word (referring to the bible) but if you see it as a whole, if you see what the message is, and if you accept that it's written by humans, it becomes much more understandable and easier to accept. "They could also try learning a bit about science, and fact." That's actually really irrelevant since the two does not contradic one another. Yes, now you'll probably say that Adam and Eve contradics Charles Darwin's theory of evolution but you could see the storie as a symbolic one that actually tells a diffirent story if you read between the lines. And I'm sorry to say but to be honest Sunday school dosen't always teach you much of how the bible could be interpretated, which I think is a very important thing. Anyways when you've read some inspiring books (that aren't dictating and preaching on about every word in the bible like it's law) then we could continue this discussion. I would recoment "Letters from a Skeptic" by Gregory & Edward Boyd, although I don't think the chance of you reading it is very high I still think I should recomend it. One last thing, what "facts"? The truth is that the things we see as facts are what our five senses can interpret and that becomes our reality, still nothing says that we got it all wrong due to our lack of information and perspective. I'm not saying that science is wrong or that I don't belve in it. I'm just saying sometimes you've got to think outside of the box.

personally, I'm an atheist, but I have friends who are very devout in their religions. It's true that disbelieving a religion doesn't imply a hatred of the people who practice it, and it's also true that religions are very contradictory, and they all disagree with one another. But, and here is where I agree with you, so do scientists. I think that future generations will look down at our "science" today with the same attitude we view the way diseases like the bubonic plague were handled. I condone out-of-the-box thinking, but thinking outside normal limits isn't just in the case of religion.

I also have little to no respect for people who blindly follow a religion (and by religion, I am including atheism and agnosticism) because their families do, or their friends do. If someone practices something that they, as an individual, believe, THAT is commendable.

I, as a Christian, believe that although the Bible in its current form was written and edited by man, it still has lessons that can be taken from it. I never thought it was to be taken literally. (Like, seven days to create the Earth. Isn't a second here supposed to be much longer in Heaven? So what if that's basically just a metaphor for the beginning of the Earth?) I don't think much can be taken from it in a literal sense. However, if you mix it with science ((Oh no, he's doing it!!!!!)) that you can see how intelligent design may play a part. And I think God is that intelligence. I don't believe all of what has appeared on the Earth was by a mere series of coincidences.

Also, you have to have a sense of humor and have fun in life. Otherwise, life has no meaning, with or without God. Know what I mean? (I probably sound insane...)

I am also Christian and love God so much!! He rules! I have felt him in my life, my friends' lives and through miracles. My friend was to die of luekemia, the day her family found out she would definately die, they lost an icon of a Saint they had been praying to (I can't remember which) and were desperate because she was only an infant. The next day (that she was supposed to die on) the icon was found in the laundry room of the hospital and returned to their family. Now she's one of my best friends and lives to this day. God does send messages! And, I do think creating the world is possible in seven days! Because the Lord created the moon and sun on the third day. Without the sun, we can't measure the amount of time it took for a day to pass in the beginning, so it very well could have been created in a matter of ''days''
i Love God with all my heart and hope anyone reading this will come to him as well
