"I remember it like it was yesterday. It was late spring, and I was just a filly then... I didn't know too much about life other than my mother. My brothers didn't start actually bothering me until I was older. Back then all I cared about was ma, being at her side in hopes I could make her feel better. She was always sad. Crying in her sleep, moping around all day before vanishing into the woods... leaving me with the boys until she returned.

I remember the day I saw my mom smile. I've seen her smirk a few times when Traxton would trip over Bron's fat butt, or when I said something funny... but I had never seen her fully smile. I guess she was feeling good that day, so you could bet your bottom I was glued to her hip. I stayed there all day until she looked towards her usual vanishing place, so.. as usual, I would begin to walk away, knowing where to go and who I would end up with.

I can still hear her call my name, and it confused me when I heard it back then. I turned around just in time to see her tilt her head to invite me to finally tag along. Shoot, I almost ran to her. So together we walked the heavily pressed, grass trail into a small clearing. I didn't see the stone until I flopped down beside my mom. At first I was wondering what was so special about this place, and that rock. Until she told me "this is where Daddy is."

It took me a moment to understand, but when I did... I only looked at my mom. Expecting her to cry. To burst into the sniffles she made at night. No... there was none of that. Instead there was a smile. A real one that wrinkled her nose and bunched up her cheeks, and I could only send one back.

We stayed there the whole day. She told me all about how much he loved me, how he was the one who named me Rune. I hadn't seen her this peaceful, this.. happy. I may have never seen my dad a day in my life, but I swear that day... I saw him in her eyes."
