The masking fluid rebelled finally and I had a grand old time repairing a lot of the shapes by hand. T_TTools: Graham/Pelican watercolour, masking fluid, 140lb cotton paper, watercolour pencil

Uwah so beautiful~ Quick question, in this piece and during the masking process, did you draw/design the patterns before hand, or did you just freehand them? Any suggestions as to whether or not, if drawn beforehand, marks will show later?

I did the patterns in freehand. If you draw with a pencil before, the marks will show, which is ok as well since you can still erase them. C:

i love this piece. flat out love it. the figures really pop out, the colors you get are really subtle and awesome, and i love how you use the black space. super super cool

it's so beautiful! I know this may sound a bit dmub, but is masking fluid like wax (...but fluid. xD) and how do you use it?

Masking fluid is sort of like... rubber in a liquid form.
You can apply it to the paper, once it dries, you can paint over it, peel it off, and where it was before will be spots of white.

They are not that bad, around 6 dollars for a bottle.

Nooo I made a mistake and used Arches Velin paper instead of regular watercolour paer. >: So fibrous.
