Even though they don't look poop, do not hold your paper at an angle

They're pretty, it's a nice little sketch.
Ugh, that's no good about your tablet dying. Hey, at least you're not me. A few years ago my sister decided she wanted to try to draw digitally, and our Nan being the fabulous woman she is bought her a tablet. Not the best of the best, but it was as good as it needed to be, it was a nice device. I ended up using it more than her, but still didn't use it all that much, I've always been more of a traditional drawer anyway even if my account doesn't show that. When I decided I really wanted to get into digital drawing however, I went to go look for the tablet, I found it without any trouble, but couldn't find the pen, they'd gotten separated. After a few months after mentioning it to my mum, she told me that she'd found it and had put it on her bed side table. Happy, I looked and found it wasn't there, so I looked around her room a bit because she definitely hadn't touched it, so it could only have fallen off. However, I still didn't find it. A few hours later we mentioned it to my dad, who explained he'd found it. Turns out he threw it out when it didn't work. I don't know whether he was joking or not but I still haven't found that godforsaken pen, so I'm going to say it wasn't a joke.
Yes he's an idiot, it clearly wasn't a pen that has ink. Clearly. Really really clearly. I have no job so I can't get another one, and I can't expect anyone to buy me one when there's already one in the house.
As for the scanned pictures problem, I don't have a good answer but my scanner allows me to adjust the lighting and contrast of the picture I scanned if I do a preview scan on a particular mode. It doesn't work on automatic. I have to do that for my traditional pictures. As for digital as I don't actually have a scanner so I do the original thing on paper and use a special rubber on photoshop to make it nothing but the lines, so it whitens it up, but you need another layer underneath that's white for it to work. Depending on the picture you can use either of those, the first is more advisable if its a sketch, if the lines as too light the rubber will erase more than just the background. It's annoying.
Sorry for the long comment.

oh,that sunds awefule..still :c understandable mistake by your dad his generation didn't have a tablet pen.
oh and really?I might be able to do the photoshop thing since I sketch in pen all the time..shouldnt have to worry about light lines

It's funny since my nan whose almost twenty years older than him still understood the difference. But she's done a lot of work which required a computer, and since she's only recently retired she's the best old person I know when it comes to technology, its no lie that she owns my dad and my mum, her own daughter. Plus, I have an older dad anyway, he was in his mid thirties when me and my sister were born, not as old as it can get but I live in a bad area, I've heard 16 before.
I was really glad when I discovered the photshop thing. I was using photoshop elements 10, since I'm used to it. It's called magic rubber I think, pretty much it just erases the background in between the lines. I discovered it recently and I was so glad I did, it makes cleaning up the picture so less time consuming. But its not perfect, that's why it can erase the actual picture as well. What I'm currently cleaning is in pencil, so I've little use for it since it destroys the actual art as well as the background. But pen work has always come out fine because I have a tendency to use my felt tips which are much darker than the others. I used it last night for a poster I had to create for my drama class, the whole thing only took me two hours, and that was with me fiddling with effects a good bit too.

mmmmm actually you can fix it by using photoshop, there is a button called image, inside are other buttons called auto collor, auto contrast, and auto tone
those tools can help you get better image color or shading, that depends on what you want

This is super good! No pencil? I erase too much... Heheh
Ehh... I'm afraid you may be a little stumped on with your scanner, though. I think the scanner quality depends on the scanner... My own scanner gives me poop all the time. I don't know what kind of scanner or program(s) you use to acquire your images, but with mine I have options to change settings from gray to lineart to color, and I can change the DPI and all. Typically a drawing like this or similar I'd put on color, with 400 to 600 DPI. Often it's just painfully long trial and error xD And I'm never truly satisfied with the image I get. Often I'll open the scanned image and change settings to make the midtones really dark, which pops out all your drawing and details and such, but it also makes the paper around it look really poopy and dirty... Ugh >_>

Well I did! But I did it wrong-- I googled "Why isn't my pen pressure working?" And all the answers were like "It was just working yesterday and then fuckit" and all the answers were like "go change some setting" and I'd already have that setting changed and I was just so done that I gave up DX But now that it's working, oh mah gahd <3 I showed my friends my drawing, and I was spammed with love. This tablet thing is definitely my baby and nothing is allowed to touch it.
