Vorrei non essere costretto a fingere
per rimanere ancora qui
perché mi sono perso in questo posto
ma non voglio andare via così.
E torneremo leggeri come l'aria
come ieri........"

To begin my critique of this new painting, I must admit that the artist is very much a friend, a dear one at that, but my feelings for her as a friend do not cloud my judgements on this piece or those she has rendered in the past.
I gave this piece a 5 star for impact because I feel it truly deserves it. Chiara is at her best when she paints what she feels. The instant I saw this piece I knew my friend had unleashed her emotions on yet another one. Who hasn't felt what one sees as they look into the eyes of this overwhelmed character. I say character, but in all honesty I see this female in painting as my friend at the very earliest point of conception of this piece. Whether or not it is, matters little to me really. What matters most is that I can relate to what my friend was feeling as the conception process of painting was under way. More than that though, I love this piece because it very much "speaks" to me, touches my soul and makes me question many things in my life.
Technical critique I am wholly unqualified to give for I am not an artist, but I must say that this new painting is given even greater depth from the dark, but starlit background. It adds great depth to the piece and is a great contrast to the pale face, cool eyes and intricate weave of color which makes up this solemn faced beauties' body.
Truthfully, there is little more I can say. Oh, I could add this one makes me long even more for one of her originals. I could also mention that this piece is her best of what I call her "emotional portraits" (it is), but if one can gaze at this piece and not be moved, not hear it speak to you, then truly you have no soul.
In closing, I can say what i've said for years. "There is art which entertains and there is art that speaks and touches souls." Few artists have spoken to me through their art as Chiara has. This piece I shall always cherish for it has truly touched my soul.

I just can't stop staring at it. It's amazing. You really master mixed media - it looks so effortless but you can still see how much technic that is involved! Did you use acrylic for the black background and watercolor for the rest?
