Right, so after drawing Yonec's mother for 21 Day Habit - Day 01 , I decided to give her a full pic. I'm doing a few of Marie de France's Breton lais as my theme for the 21 Day Habit thing. For those of you who aren't familiar with Marie's lais, you should give them a look. Marie wrote them in the 12th century and claimed to be writing down Breton songs (scholars are still discussing that bit).

In any case, the lai of Yonec isn't just about Yonec; it's about how his parents met and how little Yonec came about, too. See, Yonec's mother was beautiful, and she was just what the aging Lord of Caerwent was looking for. Her family, of course, was looking for what the elderly lord was offering: wealth and prestige. So, they sold her off as his wife. As she was so very beautiful, the lord was certain she'd be unfaithful to an old goat like him, so he confined her to a tower. For... seven years. With no one for company but his spiteful old hag of a sister and himself (on occasion), she got pretty darn depressed and angry. Finally, one day, she had a well-deserved tantrum that ended in her wishing to God that she had a "handsome, courtly, brave, and valiant" supernatural lover to *ahem* help her pass her long, lonely days.

Imagine her surprise when she got exactly what she asked for.

Marie doesn't give the young lady a name (an awful lot of her characters go unnamed), so for my own purposes, I've decided to call her Lady Emelin. To read more about Yonec, you can check out Wikipedia's entry on it.
