The heroes of TOME dressed up in fan-voted Halloween costumes! This piece turned out better than I expected; I'm pretty proud of it! For those've you who don't know, I actually have a history of doing illustrations like these with the old TvTome Adventures. So since we're nearing up on the 1st-Year Anniversary of TOME, I thought it'd be fun to do this again. As the costumes were being voted on at the Facebook page, I was debating about whether or not to do the classic kind of "silly" depiction of the characters, or to attempt at doing something a bit more menacing and creepy. I gave the latter approach a shot and...well, it didn't turn out too badly at all!

I went in with the idea of sticking with classic Horror Movie monsters and typical Halloween creatures instead of typical modern characters from games and shows, etc. In the last week we had one weekday for each of the five characters to be voted on for their costumes and the results made it very simple for me.

Alpha's Werewolf costume was the last option I thought of and immediately knew it would win at the polls. I went with some paler, sicker colors for his outfit, like it was the last outfit his new Werewolf "persona" had worn and never abandoned, like he's clinging to his humanity! I made his hair and fur spikier than usual and gave him some canine-like teeth and ears. His eyes are inconsistent, but giving him pupils made them more intimidating. Also, since I wasn't gonna just get rid of his wings and tail, I tried to hide them a little bit to put less emphasis on them.

Kirb's costume was a close tie between a Ghost and a Jack-'O-Lantern. When Ghost won, at first I was a little worried about if I could do anything interesting with it. My mental picture was Jacob Marley from a Christmas Carol, with the chains hanging off him and everything. I just kinda started sketching and he came out looking like a cross between Slimer from Ghostbusters and the Boo's from Super Mario. I added the teeth and tongue sticking out combined with the bugged-out eyes and he came out WAY cooler-looking than I expected.

Flamey I had a feeling was gonna get Vampire voted on, even though I was leaning more towards zombie. When I knew Vampire was the choice, I knew from the beginning I should try and make her a "cool" vampire and not either a lame-looking or stereotypically slutty-looking one. Went with a paler skin-tone and a slightly different hairstyle to work with the outfit, which I think is classy, despite the exposed legs. I had the furl behind her neck curl off at the end kind of like her wings, threw on some gothy make-up and gave her a wine glass for an extra touch...IS IT BLOOD? YOU DECIDE.

Gamecrazed's Jack-'O-Lantern costume surprised me when it got voted for the most. I was puzzled on what to do, but always had an idea in the back of my head to go with something along the lines of that one monster from Power Rangers with the upside-down pumpkin head. I decided to give it a shot and the rest just made sense! The bottom half of his body was meant to be a bunch of roots growing out of the ground beneath the hollowed-out pumpkin. To replace his buttons and things, I had a bunch of vein-covered pustules scattered on him. The alienotic glow coming out of his carved-up head was fun, too.

Even though I really wanted to draw Nylocke like Dracula, due to his slightly vampiric appearance, Wizard won by a landslide. Because I had decided by that point that I wanted to do a more scary-looking illustration this time, I was worried Nylocke's costume would mess with the flow of the entire picture. I took a few suggestions from friends and ultimately went with a sort of Gandalf-like costume and added some crazy magic effects. When I got to assembling the illustrations together, it didn't seem like it affected it too much...and then when the piece was finally finished, my fears were put to rest...BUT I HOPE YOURS AREN'T. HOO HOO HOO HA HA HA~

Anyway, thanks to everyone who spoke their opinions and voted on the costumes! I hope you all enjoy Halloween this year and look forward to a new Episode of TOME coming out right after October's end. ;]
