My first artwork in nearly a month. I really felt like trying to challenge myself, but at the same time work with some of my favourite elements like lighting, certain colours and pretty things. So I guess it wasn't exactly a challenge, just more a lot of effort. P:This is Emiki, one of my semi-main characters from Back Waters (my future illustrated-novel/comic to be, or so I hope.) Full Title: Khalaari- Emiki Olesia. or Emiki of the first house of Olesia. She doesn't always look quite so posh, she must be getting ready for some festival or ball.
Emiki's a full blood Kharmoan. Kharmoa are characterised by short stocky legs with opposable toes. Dark skin with lighter skin markings on their face, ears, hands and feet. Large round ears. and really thick hair in colours ranging from blonde to medium browns and reds.
I made up this character when I was 15, and boy has she evolved in the... nearly 7 years since. If you have any questions about Back Waters, please ask! C:

Wow! Ridiculously gorgeous. When I first saw this (and scrolled down) her feet confused me a lot. But the read the description, which by the way is also really good. I love that you actually created a race of people like this (I think ..unless the idea was from something else).
Anyway, I was going to say a small bit of critique. He feet look a little weird. Yes, I have never seen feet with actual opposable toes but the heel on her left (our right) foot looks like it's missing entirely. And the bulge on the right foot looks a bit off. But like I said, I've never seen opposable toes, so I don't know if that is how they should look or not.

Amazing, as always! You are so good at what you do and your style is magnificent. I'd like to see you do it from scratch somethime! ^^
The whole thing is very beautiful and simply breathtaking; her hair is absolutely gorgeous!
The only thing I would say anything about is her bossom; I'm not sure if it's beacuse of the position of the necklace or something else, but it looks like her chest is facing us more than the rest of her body. Also maybe the left breast should be a little higher, since her arm is up in an almost ninety degree angel.
I hope that you're not offended by this; there are no doubts hat you are my absolute favorite artist here on DA and you drawings are otherworldly (literally).

its amazing! it reminds me a lot of robin hobb's triolgy 'the liveship traders'. did you get any ideas from there? not as a stealing thing but as an inspiration thing. but shes so lovely and very unique, it just reminds me of that b/c it has balls and semi human people in it and i imagined them to dress like this

I've never read any Robin Hobb books (my list of novels read is like...maybe 20 long including HP and LotR, so my experience with fantasy novels is pretty pathetic) half of my ideas are probably unoriginal (hell, Avatar 'stole' half of the ideas from my head I swear. haha) but whatever. I'm not going to try to read every book just to cut out ideas that have been done before, there'd be pretty much nothing left of it I'm sure. :'D So I'm going to keep running with my "I haven't read any such books so the ideas are original to me" arguement

I hope it's not irritating to hear, but she looks amazing, adorable, and an exceeding amount like Karen Gillan! Also, you have awesome skills.
Something you could want to note is, the thick lines of the toes make the feet look slightly less real than, say, the hands.
But still, awesome work.

I would love to critique this... but I have a question: What are you looking for in a critique? Praise? ways to improve? are you looking for ways to improve this picture? I would don't want to be so overly critical (which I've been known to be 
some clarification would be nice. It would be my first critique, after all. Kinda new to it, and I don't want to cross and boundaries.

I guess just critique of the piece it's self. Kinda like what you would tweek/fix if it was your piece and you had the ability? As long as you're polite about it and try to give examples of how to fix any problems you point out then critique is always helpful C:

Thankyou. The Olesia's family ...crest? (sort of) is a lotus like flower. So I've decided to make most of their outfits incorporate the same symbol. Plus lots of feathers, they adore feathers/birds.

After having not seen you around for a while, this is a magnificent comeback! The opposable toes are a neat idea; it's certainly the first time I've ever seen it. I was going to ding you for the legs, but after reading your description, I looked at them again and decided that the shortness of them worked for Emiki's body type.
Her eyes are extremely well done. I find myself staring at them. I didn't notice that her skin tone was different in places. You might want to make the contast a little more obvious. You've got the lighting down nicely, but perhaps make the pearls on her hair ornament a little more pronounced, or else they might come across as flat and boring.
The waterfall you have going on in the background is great, very nice. Just don't make the bushes look hairy/fuzzy. 
I hope that helps! I just finished an art class and was subjected to critiques all the time. I hope I learned a bit more from that class in order to help other artists when they need it.
Now for my personal opinion on this whole thing: AWESOME.

lol. The 'bushes' are meant to be like moss, so they're meant to look fuzzy. But besides that, Thanks very much for the critique, very helpful. C: And yes I could/would have made her tones of skin more obvious but I didn't cos the scene is fairly dimly lit. In a more sunny/evenly lit scene I will make sure to make the Kharmoa's skin tones stand out more

Oooh, it's supposed to be MOSS? Lol, don't make the moss look so fuzzy. From far away, the tufts of green wouldn't be seen so clearly. Perhaps make it a big flatter, but not so flat to wear it looks lame on the rock.
Oooh, and if the scene is dim, make her shadows a bit more pronounced. Perhaps make the sun set and get those orange-y and yellow-y tones on her skin, letting the water that I'm assuming is pooling somewhere down below illuminate her feet. You could get some good complimentary contrast if you did something like that. 8D
