Description While often seen in modern depictions as sor of marine hydra, Scylla was orignialy depicted as sort of mermaid with canine heads growing out of her waist. www.theoi.com/image/P27.1Skyll…

I played a bit with that idea, making the top head sort of human/lamprey hybrid and six mutated animalistic, extendable heads growing out below it.

SCyla ate six friends of Odysseus.

I really like ODyssey.

Why Circe? They were different characters.

GuesssWho9 In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2014-10-01 10:47:01 +0000 UTC]

Circe was the one who cursed Scylla; she started out as a sea nymph, but there was a love triangle involved and things got out of hand as per usual in Greek myth.

I see.. I think in some other versions of the myth somebody else did this.. Poseidon or his wife.

Brian-OConnell In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2015-02-13 20:50:17 +0000 UTC]

In the version I heard, Poseidon was having an affair with Scylla (a sea-nymph) and Poseidon's wife Amphitrite found out, turning Scylla into...this by poisoning the river water.

But I did some research and apparently there IS another version where Circe, envying Scylla (Scylla was loved by Glaucus and Circe loved him also: love triangle!), turned her into...this.

Trochę się kojarzy z łapą Sfinksa z opowiadania Lovecrafta "Under the Pyramids", w Polsce wydanej jako "Uwięziony wśród faraonów".

"I can safely say that this is probably the most original (especially recently) look Scylla. Great "human" head in the center, with mouth gaping as if all the rest grew out of the gorge"

Gratuluję spostrzeżenia cetusowego ogona. Być może zauważyłeś, że hydra ma podobny. Staram sięukazać jakieś pokrewieństwo między tymi istotami.

ecsmedia.pl/c/w-gorach-szalens…

I've seen lots of depictions of Scylla, and yeah, most of them do look like simple marine hydras, rather than dog-headed mermaid things.

Once again your grotesque imagination has conjured up an image that is both creatively-designed and kept in spirit of its source material. I'm not sure how this thing can swim, but it is still very sleek and slimy and streamlined in appearance, and I love how its heads are dog-like while not being completely like a dog!

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to JoeRB [2014-05-30 21:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's what I am always trying to do - stay faithful to the source yet warp it in a grotesque way... Judging by your kind comment I suppose I've managed this time. Thank you!
