Hey great job, but I disagree with squamata (varanid, snake, legless lizards, and mosasaurs) being dragon's closest fictional relatives. Lepidosauromorphs don't have the necessary plan fictional dragon evolution. However, Middle eastern dragons could be classified as fictional Lepidosauromorphs due to their body plan. Even though dragons are fictional, I personally do not classify all of them as dragons in fact I do not even believe in the term draconidae a little bit. I think that many dragons may fictionally be classified in Lepidosauromorphs and Archosauromorphs groups. I don't know a lot of dragon species but the ones that I do, I consider some of them to be unrelated to each other or not even in the same family tree branch. In my opinion, The impossible hexapodal dragons or European dragons and wyvrens could more closer to Archosauromorphs (Avemetatarsalians in particular). European dragons (though impossible) would probably have a common ancestor with pterosaurs and they may also have pycnofibers on their skin. Wyvrens might have a more recent common ancestor with avielae (the intermediate ancestors of birds. In my opinion wyvrens might be a fictional avian dinosaur. If you disagree, I would like to hear your opposition.

I mean, I didn't create these dragons myself so I haven't thoroughly pondered their evolutionary developments/relationships aside from the fact that they are highly derived squamates (at least in this series). In this universe, I suppose the idea of hexapodal dragons is just misinterpreted; what with all dragon species in this series being tetrapodal. Like I said, it's not my dragon project so I haven't really questioned it.
As for dragons in general, I COULD see a wide variety of possiblities, such as various ornithodirans.
