Emo is short for emotive or emotional. It's a social trend, characterized by lots of dark wardrobe, odd haircuts and facial jewelry. Not unlike goth in many ways.

It's definitely changed a bit over the last few years that I've been doing these. But I started out by following a tutorial by *wycked . It all boils down to practice and learning the tricks that work for you. But if she's still got that tutorial in her gallery, I highly recommend it.
