I personally go for female characters because they generally have smaller frames, and are thus harder to see.

a joke, i know, but there are 2 answers to the question
1. HA HA HA, GAY!
2. in almost any human interaction outward physical appearance plays a large role in how the two communicating parties percieve each other, and this includes but is not limited to gender. portraying yourself as female makes you appear less aggressive, less threatening, and provides an immediate visual identifier that you represent a nurturing and/or constructive force (through association with the commonly held sphere of female influence).
tl;dr: a female avatar keeps others from starting dick waving contests with you

There was also Tex's and York's AI. And Andy and Gary... you could count Simmons as an AI as well.

Tex's AI is Omega, aka O'malley. Gary is Wyoming's AI Gamma.

Every member of Project Freelancer was designated a specific A.I. to serve different purposes: Omega was filled with rage and has the ability to jump from suit-to-suit using the radios. Gamma has deciet as an ally: having people play for different teams unknowingly. Then there is Agent New York with his otherwise Logic-filled A.I.: Delta, able to make a logical assessment about anything. and then there was Agent Washington: also known as Recovery One: specializing in the safety and recovery of Freelancer A.I.'s: it is better to recover an A.I. then to delete it as they cost a LOT of money to produce. Washington was assigned with the Epsilon A.I.: it was an A.I. that was 'peaked' between edge of sanity and memories of torture: Washington was seemingly affected when it went craz and then killed itself inside of Wash's head.
