Description Originally taken for the digital camera marathon in Bordeaux this week end, i wanted to make some adjustments... i quite like the effect i got.
to achieve this, just set the camera on speed priority, set 1/4s approx (you need to adjust with the ambient light) and prepare to zoom in and/or rotate the camera during the time between the open clik, and the close clic... dont know if i'm clear it only works with manual zoom lenses...

WHOLY WOW.

your long exposure work is absolutely inspiring!!! I am so jealous of how things work out so beautifully and masterfully. I will hopefully be purchasing a new camera myself with a manual zoom so that I can only HOPE to attain such photography perfection!

Definate add to my favorites!

not bad I need to try this with my camer some time, the radal zoom in PS works good too, especally if you duplicate the layers and play with opasity or a layer mask

much more interesting to do that manually... radial blur in PS ? pointless

I think that some of my favorate manipulations are using the zoom blur in PS, but that does not replace doing it on the original capture take a look at [link] , [link] , [link] . what I do is mask off the subject allowing for crisp detail, the one using the bath tub had the zoomed layer with low opasitiy. it just comes down to working process, zoming normally does not occur to me at the moment of capture

kil1k In reply to NerdyBill1 [2005-10-10 14:43:34 +0000 UTC]

yes of course... moreover it allows you to make "stable and controlled" artworks...with clear focus on specific subject...the manual effect cant...
yeah , well, i was talking about the blur in itself...but nothing stops you to shoot 2 photos, one with the zoom blur, and one normal, so you can do the same process in photoshop, keeping a mask of the subject

You can also move forward (ya know, with your feet ) to get the effect. Of course, it's much more difficult since your horizon can move around a lot more, but just a note for those who want to try.
