I was always sad when Maleficent died in Sleeping Beauty.... because she looked so COOL as a dragon. If she died in her normal design I wouldn't have been chocked up about as a kid. Thanks Disney.Β

I feel like some of the purples could have a little more darkness to them. On the belly scute, the lines could be a wee darker, and maybe the sky Β could have a darker shade that only shows along the very top? Β the gradient seems to be really textured down low and then the top area feels a bit empty without anything to balance the rich shape/contrast and textures below. Β Perhaps some ominous looking clouds could round things out too.

There are definitely a few noticeable differences which are more Kiki touches, but I tried to keep mostly true to her design!

Nowadays she's a kind of refreshing alternative to the angsty, misunderstood or cuddly and actually innocent dragons you seem to encounter a lot more often.
Such a big stomach, too... not a greyhound-like body at all, which is the model most dragon artists seem to follow. I guess she needed room inside her for lots of victims...

The greyhound-like body people give dragons doesn't really make much sense anatomically speaking.Β I mean, yeah, you can design dragons however you like, but VERY few animals, and virtually no predators, have a body type like that. (cheetahs being the real exception, and they're built to run.)
I design all my dragons like big cats.Β They like to sleep a lot, can be assholes, and are flexible crazy hunters.
To be fair, I like the idea of "actually pleasant" dragons, and have a ton of dragon stories I've been working on, but I treat them more neutral.Β Some are good, some are bad, but tey are still dragons, and just want to sun a little.
