Description Utoto 's post on my geisha deviation reminded me that I should put up a pic of the first big project I ever finished. This one's my pride and joy. There was a very knowledgeable lady at Hobby Lobby who helped me pick out the borders and frame. I'm not as impressed with the uneven stretching job considering how much it cost me to have it framed, but I think it's beautiful anyway. I couldn't get an image where you could see it, but the frame is black bamboo with red highlights. ^_^

This is a Stoney Creek design called Oriental Expressions .

Unfortunately, I don't think the picture does it justice. But if I get any closer, it'll have a big flash reflection in the middle! Ah, well! This one took me several months, for the record.

The pink of the blossoms is absolutely perfect.  Oh, this is gorgeous, and I might have to set it as a desktop picture.

Ah, this is what I get for staying away from DA for too long. Thank you all for the kind comments!

It does look like a real fan, doesn't it? The flowers are buttons, but all the rest is stitched. I love Stoney Creek designs. The "confetti" wasn't too bad, either (areas with only one or two stitches in each color before you have to "travel" or snip off to get to the next area).

The gold is sparkly because I used metallic thread. The stuff is beautiful, but a complete beast to sew with! And forget correcting any mistakes with it. You can't pull it back out without mutilating the metal coating. Still, it made for a lovely effect! (^_^)

It is a beautiful piece & you should be proud... rightly so

You could stretch your own, it's not that difficult & you get it done how you want

This is beautiful! From the search pages, I couldn't believe that the fan was actually stitched! It looked like it was popping off the fabric!

This is gorgeous! It's too bad you couldn't get the frame in the picture, it has to look so neat with the image! I'm quite new to cross stitching, but this has to go on my 'To-Do' list.

You know, I had to go full view to even be able to tell this was a stitch. It looks so real it's hard to beleive you stitched this.

Thank you so much! I'm so proud of this one - it was my first really big stitching project, and I was able to fix/hide any boo-boos pretty well! ~hehe~ This is the only stitching project I have right now that's actually hanging on a wall. The rest are in storage or in a craft drawer waiting to be finished or framed. (^_^)

Thanks for taking a look!

hey I have that pattern book!
I bought the book just for that pattern.
I love cherry blossoms and wanted a patern of a chinese fan with cherry blossoms on it. Wow I'm very impressed with it. Now I deffanatly can't wait to start doing mine. Granted I need to finish the one I am doing right now but I will start that one soon.
Wow I ramble a lot.
I just want to say excellent job. Even if the stretch is not perfect and it cost you a bloody fortune for the framing it looks lovely.

Thank you! It took me sooooo long! lol

I still have the book, too. I'd really like to do the cranes someday, but I think I'll wait until I can find a Japanese symbol to put in there that better fits our home and family. (^_^)

I figured it would take me a long time to do that one also.
I think that is why I have been holding off on it. But it looks so beautiful. you did such a great job on it.
The crane one is really pretty too. If you can find a better symbol for it then you should definitely do that. With all the work that will go into it. You want it to look perfect and if you don't like the symbol then you wont like the finished piece.
I wish you the greatest luck with the cranes.

this is another amazing piece! lovely!
maybe you can try scan it? I never tried to scan things other than paper but usually it comes out with better detail^_^

BTW...
You can't tell from the pic, but the pink flowers in the four corners are actually ceramic buttons. If I didn't have two borders (pink and green), I wouldn't have been able to put glass over it because the buttons would have been too thick. They still press against the glass as it is. lol!

I'm lucky the framing lady was so knowledgeable about weird stuff like that that I never woulda thought of!!!

oh my.....no wonder it's such highly resoluted
I have recently went to a framing shop aswell, and yup they really do a good job^_^ they gives special treatment to chinese paper too~V

Not a bad idea, but it's a pretty big piece. With the borders and frame, it's probably 20 inches wide (51 cm) and 16 inches (41 cm) high! Way bigger than my scanner. ~hehe~

And thank you. I'm really proud of this one. ^_^

Yeah... tp give ya a better perspective, the black squares that the flower buttons sit on are each 10 x 10 stitches so there's 400 stitches right there. LOL!

I gave up trying to count how many stitches that thing had in total. ^_^

Only the most dedicated (or pathetic, in my case! lol) stitchers can finish the "big 'uns."
