Inspired by all the silly drama that seems to erupt around here.Fanart is art.
Being popular does not = being a hack.
It is not any given artist's 'fault' that he/she is popular.
This is an art site, and it is meant to be fun for all involved, whatever their choice of subject or medium.
If you have time to complain, you have time to create.
Which is a more productive use of that time?

Why would people complain about such things? Fanart is art, is it not? Critiques are one thing, as is constructive criticism. People get popular practically overnight. It happens. So what? Take that as initiative to make what you do better!

If put into the right words, a good critique on things mentioned above can change a lot for the better. So it can be very productive if done correctly.
In a community, I don't only want to be surrounded by artists, I also want to be critics be my neighbors. On rare occasions, maybe someone is both, but it's not necessarily the case.
So yes, I like well-done rants 8D (they can even be humorous)!

Oh yeah, good critique is helpful, and I do like to see that on an art community like this! I actually think it's a shame that more people who want to become good artists can't seem to take critique as something meant to help them improve. That's...sort of totally missing the point of what I was trying to say, sorry. XD; What I meant was, flaming (and I mean real, honest to goodness flaming, not constructive criticism, which is awesome) is a waste of time. And if you have time to flame someone, ie make a degrading, mean-spirited comment with no constructive purpose (exs. 'This is pure crap and you should stop drawing forever you stupid buttface!' 'God I hate fanart.' 'Go kill yourself for drawing that.'

Yeah, flaming is certainly bad, and you should never say "I hate your fanart" to someone's face, but I think it's okay to comment on it in your own journal, even though I agree that's a waste of time and a petty argument.
