I've got a questions: The reference sheets only have these few examples or these are just samples? The paid sheet have more content?

Hmmm.. I always learned that head #3 (From top to bottom) ended close to the bellybutton and head #4 ended close to the crotch area.
Have you ever heard of/tried those proportions before? I'm wondering if I was taught wrong because my torsos always feel a little elongated to me, while yours look very nice!

Kibbitzer In reply to Nycketful [2016-06-08 00:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Those are just standard measures! I don't think your way is wrong
'cause in the end we are aaaaall different and nobody is perfectly proportionate XD
then you might be a little more cartoonish or manga or realistic in your drawing style!
we should consider many things...
BUT whatever it is your style...if the pose looks "natural" it's fine! XD

7-8 heads is only an artistic device to "memorize" how to draw the human figure, from memory lol. I don't even have to tell you that I'm sure lol. I struggle going beyond that, I mean when drawing from imagination. How many heads makes a short person or a tall person? How many heads should be the torso, how many the bottom half? By my calculations, for instance, although the proportions for a human female are about 7-1/2 heads, each head is probably a couple inches shorter than the male head, cause men are, on average, taller. I learned this from a Christopher Hart book: the female drawing(with head markings) was on one page and the male drawing was on the other page, and although the heads were about the same the male was taller.

It gets even more complicated when you're drawing cartoons a lot, like I am. For instance, I have a short cartoon gunslinger guy who's fat who's "about" four heads, but his heads a little bigger than a realistically drawn head. See??? Lol.

It's a great and very helpfull advice! Sometimes the simplest tips can make difficult parts so much easier to draw. <3

Also, it somehow made me remember this video: www.facebook.com/kaisthelimit/…
It's not really an anathomy tutorial or anything, but it also teaches something through pointing out similar proportions, and for me, it sure was extremly enlightening in terms of arm-lenght/shoulder&torso-width proportions.

This is very helpful for those who are starting with drawing bodies. Personally, I don't really like to measure the body so carefully. But I do like to make arms roughly the same size as legs, meaning that from shoulder to elbow is about the same size as from hip to knee. Also, what might be helpful to know, is that the length from elbow to wrist is the same as the length of your foot.

My elbows line up with my waist, not my hip bones... but that's what you have in the drawing. The text says hip bones though.

Anyway, a very helpful reference, thank you

Nycketful In reply to Kayru-Kitsune [2016-06-07 23:43:09 +0000 UTC]

They lines they've draw to indicate the actual hip 'bones' look too high in my opinion.. They're even too high to mark out obliques. They better represent the waist and lovehandles area.
I think everybody's elbows match with their waist because mine do as well and that's how I've always drawn my bodies!
(I know this comment's a bit old, but I figured I could help a lil~ c: )
