So I recently went to Costume Con 31, and made an original design of the Queen of Air and Darkness, Mab, from the Dresden Files. I used a deep purple, since it's one of the colors associated with her.

Attempted color correction on the awesome (if slightly unflattering!) photo/manip that FantaScenes Photography took. Worked a bit, haha. Would have helped if I had the originals, and you can see the green screen in some parts, but oh well! The flash super washed out the gorgeous color of the velvet used, so I included the bottom right photo as a reference. Still a little hard to see, but c'est la vie.

All together this costume cost me about $700 dollars. I'm estimating low and not including labor. It's too bad the makeup is hard to see! I created a smokey eye with purple, added hints of green, and lined with a combination of Pantone by Sephora's emerald liquid liner and emerald glitter. The lipstick was incredibly hard to find-- most reds are on the orange side (which typically looks terrible on me anyway,) but I managed to find that frozen raspberries/mulberry color finally at the Yves Saint Laurant kiosk at Sephora (0CAA 12 if any of you need some.) The ears are from Aradani, their small elf ears I believe.

The velvet is a regal purple, and the lining in the sleeves is a sheer iridescent green-purple embellished with some AB crystal. The trim is both green and purple leaves, with some shimmer. The inner lining of the corset-style bodice is a purple faille, and the lacing up the back matches the sleeve lining. All fabrics purchased from Allyn's Bridal in Denver, CO. The dress is two pieces: a 1" box pleated skirt and the off the shoulder corset style bodice.

Unfortunately I forgot my jewelry at home, so I purchased this gorgeous set at Khatovhar Chainmail in the dealer's room. (Earrings, necklace, and bracelet.)

Shoes, well you can't see them, but I alternated between some 5 1/2" or so Iron Fist heels, and some (I kid you not) Disney line princess shoes. Many jokes were had about her being a Disney princess. 8D

I'll hopefully get to do a snowy photoshoot sometime. I plan on doing 4 other versions of her, as described in the books. The charcoal suit, the emerald dress, ice queen (white dress), and... a super secret one ~.^ I'd love to do judgement as well, but I have issues with contacts... much less full sclera!
